Summary This is an entry‑level clinical position in our Eye Care Center where you will assist Eye Doctors with technical services to patients. No experience is required; a training program will be provided.

As an Ophthalmic Technician II, you will gather patient history, update medication lists, perform diagnostic imaging, assist with in‑office procedures (e.g., injections and lasers), provide patient education, and clean and disinfect instruments.

Position Reports To Ophthalmology Supervisor/Practice Manager.

Essential Functions

Follow standard work to obtain patient medical history and confirm purpose of visit.

Perform basic vision tests according to standard work‑up by exam type.

Manage patient workflow for maximum efficiency.

Instill topical ophthalmic medicine under physician direction.

Obtain vital signs per protocol.

Clean and set up rooms between patients; restock supplies.

Calibrate, maintain, and clean instruments and equipment per protocol.

Perform basic clinical eye testing:

Tonometry

Color Vision testing

Stereo Vision testing

Refraction

Pachymetry

Perform diagnostic eye testing as trained:

Visual field testing

Optical Coherence Tomography

IOL Master Biometry

Topography

Autorefraction

Auto‑Lensometry

Optos

Fluorescein angiography testing

Assists with in‑office procedures, including injections and lasers, and their set‑up and clean‑up.

Educates patients per physician or departmental protocol.

Performs scribe duties while physician examines patient; enters data into electronic medical record.

Manages Epic inbox, prescription refill requests, and other practice‑management duties timely.

Instructs patients on contact‑lens insertion, removal, and care.

Maintains knowledge of ophthalmic procedural/diagnostic coding.

Maintains knowledge of ophthalmic anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, ocular mobility, clinical optics, and contact lenses.

Travels to outreach areas with provider; time and mileage reimbursed.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Entry‑level position; on‑job training program; encouraged to pursue JCAHPO Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) within two years.

Maintain active Medical Assistant Registered licensure with Washington State Department of Health (paid by department).

Maintain active Surgical Technologist licensure with Washington State Department of Health (paid by department).

Maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.

Keyboarding speed of at least 40 WPM.

Ability to perform essential skills listed above.

Basic medical terminology knowledge.

Manual dexterity.

Work independently with minimal supervision.

Focus amid ongoing distractions and interruptions.

Relate effectively to patients and the general public.

Telephone etiquette.

Desired Qualifications

Ophthalmology experience of at least six months.

Coursework in medical terminology, ophthalmic pharmacology, microbiology, and ophthalmic anatomy and physiology.
