Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.
As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!
Program Description MSCR offers After School Programs at all 12 MMSD Middle Schools. MSCR Middle School After School programs are geared towards student choice and operate on a “drop in” model. Program leaders should have the desire and passion to lead a variety of activities including, but not limited to art and crafts, STEM, youth sports, social emotional learning as well as daily homework help with youth in grades 6-8.
Job Description & Duties The MSCR Middle School After School Program Assistant Director is responsible for assisting with the overall supervision and management of the after-school programs. Duties will include administrative tasks, leading and creating activities, engaging with staff, students and families, enforcing school rules and policies, creating a welcoming, positive and safe environment for students. Other duties as assigned.
Schedule: 2:30-6:30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays‑Fridays, 3:30-6:30pm
Pay Rate
$18.00 – $19.75 /hour
Minimum Qualifications
Training and experience in teaching recreational activities to children.
Previous experience with supervising, evaluating, and coaching staff.
Ability to respond quickly and efficiently in an emergency to ensure student safety.
Ability to work as a team.
Possess strong listening and organizational skills.
Effective communication skills.
Must be able to multitask.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with social and emotional support needs of middle school aged youth.
Bilingual in Spanish or Hmong.
CPR/First Aid certification.
