Job Description The Director of Pharmacy will be responsible for the operation and management of the Pharmacy Department.

The incumbent will plan, organize, and implement client pharmacy policies and procedures in accordance with established policies of the client, in cooperation with other departments, and in accordance with accepted standards of good pharmacy practice.

Responsibilities/Duties:

Determine the objectives of the department; plan, organize, and direct general pharmacy policies and procedures.

Establish satisfactory methods of drug distribution and control.

Establish quality specifications for all drugs and chemicals used in the client in accordance with the recommendations of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.

Interview, select, and supervise the activities of the department staff; communicate, interpret, and discuss with staff client and departmental policies and procedures.

Determine job objectives, work methods, and performance standards; review their performance relative to departmental objectives, conduct discussions, appraisals, and performance reviews with each employee, and manage personnel actions such as salary changes, promotions, transfers, discipline, and discharge.

Establish reporting and approval procedures; delegate authority to assistants to direct work; provide authorization for supervision, training, objectives, performance standards, appraisals, personal development, safety, communication, discipline, grievances, and other personnel actions.

Recognize organizational lines within the department; keep employees informed of matters affecting their work; interpret and explain client policies, department objectives, operations, services, organization, and budget; seek comments and suggestions from employees.

Maintain appropriate records to document quality, quantity, and timeliness of work; review and evaluate departmental performance; keep the Medical Director informed of progress, problems, and significant factors affecting responsibilities.

Seek compliance with relevant outside agencies for service requirements; ensure staff maintains professional competence through education and coordination with senior staff; plan for short and long-term departmental goals aligned with organizational plans.

Prepare reports and studies upon request; participate in management and professional committees; stay informed of industry trends and changes.

Maintain competency in patient care across all age groups and developmental stages, adhering to orientation guidelines for specific units.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Master’s degree preferred.

Licensed to dispense pharmaceuticals in the state.

Five (5) years of clinical experience.

Three (3) years of supervisory experience in an acute care pharmacy setting.

Registered Pharmacist.

General Certifications.

BLS/BCLS certification.
