CopperPoint has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Underwriter. In this role, you will support both short- and long-term business strategies to achieve profit and growth objectives through sound underwriting practices and effective agency marketing within your assigned territory. You will collaborate closely with business development representatives to drive profitable growth, leveraging a high level of technical expertise to make informed decisions. Additionally, you will provide training, coaching, and development to less experienced underwriters, helping to strengthen the overall underwriting team.
Job responsibilities
Analyzes commercial lines accounts to make sound decisions based on individual risk characteristics, exposure analysis, hazard recognition and controls.
Adheres to individual authority levels.
Prices business according to company underwriting and pricing guidelines.
Balance effective pricing and risk selection that produces profit and growth while maintaining successful producer relations.
Communicates with agency personnel on underwriting issues including declinations, cancellations, exposure concerns and loss control survey results.
Present new and renewal proposals to agency personnel.
Maintain the highest level of customer service internally and externally.
Meets with agency personnel regularly to develop and maintain positive and productive relationships.
In collaboration with the business development representative, hold the agency accountable for flow, hit ratio, new business and retention goals.
Serve as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues.
Educate the agency staff on company products, services and underwriting philosophy.
Responsible for training and mentoring less experienced underwriting team members.
Establish positive relationships with internal/external stakeholders through communication and collaboration.
Qualifications/Competencies
BS/BA college degree in business administration, finance or marketing or related field.
Minimum of 7 years of commercial insurance experience.
Advanced knowledge and/or experience with commercial lines underwriting.
Strong sales and marketing skills with ability to qualify opportunities and close deals.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Strong communication and negotiation skills.
Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Analytical skills and attention to detail.
Certificates are considered a plus:
General Insurance program (INS)
Associate in Commercial Underwriting (AU)
Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)
Associate in Risk Management (ARM)
Certified Risk Manager (CRM)
Certified Insurance Counselors (CIC)
Salary Range
$95,000-$150,000 annually
Compensation may vary depending on skills, experience, education, and geographical location.
In addition to base salary, compensation may include an annual discretionary bonus.
