Job Description Private Client Services at BDO is a boutique practice within our firm. Offering a high touch approach, we serve high net-worth individuals, their families, family offices, C-Suite executives, athletes, entertainers, and others with complex tax and financial structures. Our practice covers estate, income, gift, and trust tax consulting and compliance; charitable giving and philanthropic foundations; executive compensation; and cash-flow, retirement, and life insurance planning.
Job Summary A Tax Manager in Private Client Services uses their education and experience, along with communication, leadership, technical, and business development skills, to provide tax compliance and consulting to high net-worth clients.
Job Duties
Manage tax and consulting engagements, identify client needs, and explore tax planning opportunities.
Collaborate with clients and their advisors to gather information for tax return preparation.
Review various tax returns and provide feedback to staff and interns.
Coordinate with government agencies on complex matters.
Conduct advanced tax research and develop recommendations for leadership.
Enhance understanding of tax concepts through client work and current developments.
Prioritize and complete tasks individually and as part of a team.
Contribute to firm activities like billing, recruiting, and training.
Build and maintain relationships with professionals and external sources.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise associates and senior associates.
Review their work and provide feedback.
Train team members on software tools.
Act as a career mentor.
Manage workload and schedule for team members.
Offer performance feedback.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics preferred.
Master’s degree in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.
At least 5 years of experience in accounting, finance, or law.
Professional certification such as CPA, EA, or Attorney required.
Skills and Abilities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
Experience with tax software and research tools is preferred.
Strong initiative, communication, leadership, and business development skills.
Ability to develop and train team members.
Additional Information Salary ranges vary by location; examples include California ($112K–$150K), Illinois ($105K–$130K), and NYC/Long Island ($120K–$150K). We are committed to diversity and equal opportunity employment.
