Field Development Manager-Mid-Atlantic Territory (NC, VA, DC, MD) An innovative medical device company specializing in advanced orthopedic solutions for upper extremity joints such as the wrist, elbow, and shoulder is currently seeking a Field Development Manager for the Mid-Atlantic Region including North Carolina, Virginia, DC, and Maryland. Dedicated to improving surgical outcomes and restoring patient mobility, the company develops anatomically driven, surgeon-inspired implant systems and manufactures state‑of‑the-art implants that support complex reconstruction procedures and focus on restoring natural skeletal motion.

The Field Development Manager will be a charismatic, experienced sales professional responsible for working closely with the company’s Sales and Marketing Departments to educate customers, third‑party distributor partners, and direct sales consultants on the company’s products and services. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, and executing marketing and sales training programs, implementing brand strategy, and reporting to the Area Vice President of Sales.

Key Duties, Activities and Responsibilities

Serve as primary liaison between the company and strategically important accounts in the U.S.

Provide pre‑operative, intra‑operative and post‑operative case coverage support.

Develop and deliver insightful and educational presentations on the company’s products and services.

Evaluate customer research, market conditions and competitor data to implement brand‑planning changes as needed.

Assist the Director of Global Marketing in developing long‑term brand strategy and implementing short‑term medium objectives.

Create and manage a U.S. Surgeon database and share with the U.S. Leadership Team.

Support sales by providing third‑party distributor partners and direct sales consultants with appropriate information and education regarding new product developments, competitive products, selling strategies, and applicable medical literature.

Communicate with AVP, Senior Vice President and Director of Global Marketing to update on competitor and customer activities and ensure the voice of the customer is heard.

Build strong relationships with key surgeons and hospital personnel to leverage relationships into orders.

Assist AVPs in planning, coordinating and executing local educational and sales events to achieve budgeted sales goals.

When needed, provide superior product knowledge and expertise on the use of the company’s products during surgical case coverage.

Maintain comprehensive understanding of the hand and upper extremity and trauma market space and seek ways to nurture and leverage the business.

Strictly adhere to all policies and SOPs regarding interaction with Health Care Professionals, product handling and complaints, expense reporting, sales activities and training.

Communicate field policies related to regulatory or corporate requirements.

Expected Competence and Key Sales Activities

Ability to interact well with various functional levels, including Leadership Team, Hospital Administrators, Surgeons, OR Directors, OR Managers and Procurement Managers.

Brand Awareness and Relationship Building

Support Sales Leadership and Marketing in creating overall value and success of the company.

Coordinate meetings with key opinion leaders, target surgeons and hospital customers to educate on the product line and clinical attributes.

Develop close, productive relationships with key personnel to gain Vendor Approval status.

Perform troubleshooting procedures to resolve problems quickly.

Attend relevant industry scientific and academic meetings, regional and local gatherings.

Ensure customer retention.

Educational Activities

Answer questions concerning surgical applications, product knowledge and clinical techniques related to hand and upper extremity and trauma indications.

Demonstrate expertise of the company’s instruments and implants, as well as competitive product expertise.

Educate and train physicians and hospital personnel, including OR staff, on the principles of the company’s products in hand and upper extremity and trauma procedures.

Arrange and coordinate opportunities such as cadaver labs, sawbone workshops and journal clubs.

Knowledge & Skills

BS/BA Degree or equivalent from an accredited institution.

PC/Windows/Office proficiency.

Minimum five years of sales or education experience in orthopedic medical device in reconstruction and/or trauma.

Documented record of achievement in a sales or education position, including building territories from zero and opening new accounts.

Significant market intelligence, product knowledge and clinical expertise.

Excellent communication, presentation and demonstration skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with other departments/personnel.

Team‑oriented “do‑er” who gets things done personally if needed.

Strong interpersonal skills and professionalism.

High standards, integrity and commitment.

Travel: Approximately 60-70% travel expected.

Required Experience Minimum five years of sales or education experience in orthopedic medical device in reconstruction and/or trauma.

Required Education BS/BA Degree or equivalent from an accredited institution.
