Estimator, Public Works and Commercial Construction
Location
Near Murrieta, CA, in office full time
Compensation $150,000 to $200,000 base salary, commensurate with experience, plus benefits About the Role
This is an in office Estimator position supporting public works and commercial construction projects, with a strong emphasis on K 12 schools, higher education, and healthcare work. The role is best suited for someone coming directly from a General Contractor environment who is comfortable owning estimates from early concept through final bid and supporting the team during buyout.
Key Responsibilities • Prepare detailed conceptual, schematic, design development, and GMP estimates for public works and commercial projects • Perform quantity takeoffs and detailed cost analysis across all major scopes • Solicit, analyze, and level subcontractor and vendor bids • Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Preconstruction leadership to ensure accurate scopes and pricing • Review drawings and specifications for constructability, scope gaps, and risk • Assist with value engineering, cost savings options, and alternates • Support bid day execution and post bid reviews • Maintain cost history, unit pricing, and benchmarking data • Participate in buyout support and handoff to operations teams
Required Experience and Qualifications • Current or recent experience with a General Contractor is required • Proven estimating experience on public works and commercial projects • Direct experience estimating schools, education facilities, or healthcare projects is required • Bachelor's degree • Strong understanding of public works procurement and bidding processes • Proficiency with estimating software and takeoff tools • Strong attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced, in office environment Work Environment • Full time, in office role based in Wildomar, CA • No remote or hybrid option • Collaborative preconstruction team environment with consistent workflow and backlog Ideal Candidate Profile • Background with a reputable General Contractor • Comfortable estimating ground up and renovation projects • Detail oriented, organized, and accountable • Looking for a long term role with growth into senior estimating or preconstruction leadership
