Job Description: Interim Worship Leader
Role Overview
First Baptist Church, Georgetown, TX is seeking a spiritually mature and musically gifted Interim Worship Leader to guide our congregation and worship ministry through a season of leadership transition. This individual will serve as the primary "front person" for our worship services, providing a stable, consistent, and shepherding presence for our volunteers and staff.
The ideal candidate will be a collaborative leader who excels in a contemporary environment and is committed to stewarding the heart of our team for approximately 9 months (or until a permanent hire is found).
Key Responsibilities
Spiritual & Team Shepherding
Provide pastoral care and encouragement to the worship team (band, praise team, choir, and winds).
Lead with humility, creating space to "feature" other vocalists and musicians to foster community and shared ministry.
Facilitate a culture of prayer and spiritual readiness within the worship department.
Musical Leadership & Planning
Lead worship for Sunday morning services and the Wednesday evening prayer gathering as well as our quarterly Family Meetings.
Select songs that align with our "contemporary" style, drawing from the church’s established song library to maintain consistency and expand our library in conjunction with team input.
Direct and lead weekly Wednesday rehearsals for the band, praise team, choir (approx. 20 members), and winds section.
Arrange or adapt music as needed to accommodate the full ensemble.
Coordination & Administration
Collaborate closely with the
Associate Worship Leader
and
Worship Ministry Assistant
to ensure seamless Sunday/Wednesday execution.
Work in tandem with the
Tech Team
(audio, visual, lighting) to ensure high-quality production and clear communication.
Manage scheduling and service flow through Planning Center (or equivalent software).
Qualifications & Skills
Pastoral Heart:
A demonstrable ability to shepherd volunteers and navigate the emotional dynamics of a team in transition.
Vocal & Musical Range:
Strong "front person" presence with the ability to lead a diverse range of musical styles (hymns to contemporary).
Collaborative Spirit:
A "team-first" mentality with no hesitation in sharing the platform or highlighting the gifts of others.
Experience:
Previous experience leading a full band, choir, and instrumentalists is highly preferred.
Technical Literacy:
Familiarity with worship software (Planning Center, ProPresenter) and a basic understanding of live sound/tech needs.
Position Details
Reporting To:
Executive Pastor.
Time Commitment:
15–20 hours per week (includes Sundays, Wednesday rehearsals, Wednesday prayer gathering, and administrative planning).
Expected Duration:
Approximately 9 months or until a permanent Worship Pastor is seated.
