Request for Proposals: Curriculum Consultant

Science from Scientists (SciSci) is seeking a curriculum consultant to advise development of learning experiences for Grades 1-7 that address the Minnesota Science Standards related to the historical and contemporary contribution of MN American Indian tribes to scientific and engineering knowledge, approaches, discoveries, and ways of thinking. This project – called Including Historical and Modern Contributions of Minnesota American Indian Tribes in Science Learning – is supported by a grant from the Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Program and includes developing and field testing of two classroom lessons (for grades 2 and 4) as well as criteria for future curriculum development beyond the scope of this grant. These lessons will be led by SciSci educators in schools, supporting teachers in addressing these MN science standards. This is a limited-scope, advisory role intended to ensure that our curriculum is culturally responsive, authentic, accurate, and in alignment with academic standards and educational practices. Scope of Work SciSci has extensive experience designing science and engineering lessons for implementation in grade 2-8 classrooms. The consultant will help ensure that the new learning experiences developed through this project are authentic, relevant, and accurate with regard to the contributions of MN American Indian Tribes and communities to scientific knowledge, discoveries, and ways of thinking. The selected consultant will:

Share resources and expertise relative to the project Offer recommendations on curriculum structure, content alignment, and instructional strategies to ensure curriculum is culturally responsive and scientifically accurate Provide expert review of draft curriculum materials at up to three designated checkpoints Advise field testing of curriculum and recommend improvements based on findings Participate in up to three virtual check-in meetings with the project team Timeline and Budget The project will commence the week of August 4, 2025 and end no later than June 30, 2026.

The total budget for the curriculum consultant is not to exceed $1,500, inclusive of time and any expenses.
