The Client is looking for qualified physicians to serve as the Medical Director, providing clinical oversight, medical policy guidance, training, and consultation services to support EMS operations and public health preparedness efforts.
This is a 24-month professional services contract, averaging 10 hours per month, and may require the Medical Director to respond during major incidents or public health emergencies.
Objectives:
- Ensure Fire/EMS services operate under proper medical direction and are compliant with NJ State EMS regulations.
- Oversee and authorize the use of key emergency medications and protocols.
- Provide continuous training and clinical guidance to firefighters and EMS personnel.
- Support public health initiatives and pandemic/emergency preparedness.
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide medical authorization for epinephrine auto-injectors, intranasal naloxone, aspirin, and selective spinal immobilization protocols.
- Review patient care reports (PCRs) when any of the above interventions are used.
- Oversee the development, review, and revision of medical policies and procedures consistent with New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) regulations.
- Assist in the creation of public health preparedness plans and participate in emergency response coordination.
- Collaborate with Fire Chief and Township Health Officer on clinical policy and protocols.
- Respond to incidents and provide medical consultation upon request from Fire/EMS personnel.
- Act as the physician sponsor for Basic Life Support (BLS) programs and protocols.
Mandatory Qualifications:
- Registered to do business in New Jersey
- Licensed by the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners and in good standing
- Legal resident of the United States
- Not listed on the State of New Jersey debarred contractors or vendors list
- Board-certified Emergency Room Physician or Doctor of Emergency Medicine
- Authorized to prescribe and dispense both prescription and non-prescription medications
- Available to respond in-person when needed by Fire/EMS personnel
Training Responsibilities:
- Provide or supervise training for Fire Department personnel on CPAP, albuterol administration, LUCAS device, and clinical best practices related to EMS medical protocols.
- Provide updates and protocols related to pandemics and public health threats (e.g., COVID-19)
Additional Preferred Experience / Training (Not Mandatory):
- EMS Medical Direction or EMS education experience
- Tactical Medicine experience
- ICS/NIMS certifications (ICS 200, 300, 400, NIMS 700, 800)
- Training in Confined Space Operations and Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) Operations
