Overview
- Twenty-four hours accountability for department including: effective performance management, communication, resource management and leadership. Responsible for the provision of pharmaceutical services that meet state and federal regulations.
- Manages drug therapy protocols as a part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Reviews, interprets and evaluates medication orders to identify, prevent and resolve potential or actual drug related problems.
- Provides drug information and education to medical staff, healthcare professionals, and patients, and pharmacy students.
- Documents interventions and their outcomes for use in drug therapy quality improvement efforts.
- Evaluates medication orders for accuracy and completeness prior to order entry. Checks for accuracy after filling by technicians.
- Maintains adequate knowledge of pharmacy automated systems and computer software.
Administrative responsibilities
- Hire, supervise, train, evaluate and administer corrective action for departmental personnel.
- Performs administrative activities to ensure efficient and effective operations.
- Interprets physician-written drug orders, assigns appropriate administering schedule, and adds/deletes orders to the patient's drug therapy profile accurately.
- Assigns schedule for drug administration, when necessary, according to existing medication schedules, frequency/duration requirements, and urgency of therapy implementation.
Qualifications
- Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
