About Us Community Heart & Soul seeks to help people shape the future of their communities by actively seeking the collective wisdom of all residents, improving local decision-making, creating a shared sense of belonging, and ultimately strengthening the social, cultural, and economic vibrancy of each place. This is accomplished through a four-phase program delivered by trained Community Heart & Soul coaches.

Our work focuses on growing Community Heart & Soul through strategic partnerships with community foundations, nonprofits, and state and municipal organizations. We seek a Marker Development Associate to join our Market Development team and help drive program expansion through authentic relationship-building and strategic partnership development.

Position Summary The Market Development Associate serves as a dynamic extension of the Vice President of Market Development, working collaboratively to identify, cultivate, and nurture partnerships with community foundations, nonprofit organizations, and state and municipal leaders across the United States. This role requires exceptional relationship-building skills, business acumen, marketing sophistication, and the ability to represent Community Heart & Soul professionally at conferences, events, and direct partner engagement.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and skilled networker who understands nonprofit and philanthropic sectors, possesses strong communication abilities, and demonstrates genuine passion for Community Heart & Soul’s mission. This person must be comfortable working independently and within a team, capable of managing complex relationship touchpoints, and adept at leveraging data-driven insights to support market development strategies.

Key Responsibilities Partnership Development & Relationship Management

Prospect Identification & Pipeline Management: Identify and qualify potential community foundation, nonprofit, and municipal partners across the US through research, networking, and market intelligence. Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of prospective partners at various stages of engagement.

Strategic Outreach: Initiate and manage multi-channel outreach to prospective partners through email, phone, networking events, conferences, and social media. Customize communication strategies based on partner type and stage of partnership journey.

Relationship Cultivation: Build and nurture meaningful relationships with foundation executives, nonprofit leaders, and municipal officials. Develop a deep understanding of each prospect’s strategic priorities, funding models, and alignment with Community Heart & Soul’s mission.

HubSpot CRM Management and Marketing: Serve as a primary user and steward of HubSpot, maintaining accurate, detailed records of all partner interactions, pipeline stage, communication history, and partnership timelines. Generate reports and insights from HubSpot data to inform strategic decisions and track market development progress. Work closely with the Communications and Marketing team on the development of inbound and outbound strategies.

Representative & Thought Leadership Activities

Conference & Event Strategy: Work alongside the VP of Market Development and Vice President of Communications to develop and execute conference strategies that position Community Heart & Soul as a leader in community development within philanthropic and government organizations. Identify high impact speaking opportunities, coordinate panel discussions, and manage logistics for partner engagement events.

Networking & Speaking Support: Attend major conferences and events (including National Growing Community Foundations Conference, Council on Foundations conferences, regional philanthropy networks, municipal league meetings, and specialized convenings) to represent Community Heart & Soul, build relationships, and generate qualified leads. Support the VP in facilitating partner dinners, roundtables, and intimate engagement sessions.

Educational Presentations & Webinars: Support the development and delivery of community development expertise, webinars, coaching informational sessions, and educational content that introduces prospective partners to Community Heart & Soul’s mission and model.

Market Research & Trend Analysis: Stay informed about trends in community philanthropy, nonprofit sector developments, municipal priorities, and competitor activities. Identify emerging opportunities for partnership growth and provide strategic insights to inform business development priorities.

Partner Support

Embedded Coach Coordination: With the Program Team, support embedded coaches who work for partner organizations in their market development and community engagement efforts.

Onboarding Support: Coordinate and support partner onboarding activities, including coaching informational sessions, partnership orientation meetings, and training on Community Heart & Soul processes and expectations.

Strategic Communication & Marketing Support

Content & Collateral: Collaborate with the Communications team to develop and deploy marketing materials, case studies, and messaging that support partnership development efforts.

Lead Generation: Support inbound marketing efforts through social media engagement, website optimization suggestions (from field observations), and content distribution observations designed to generate qualified leads from prospective partners.

Required Qualifications Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Marketing, or Communications, or a related field, -OR- 5+ years of professional experience in business development, nonprofit development, partnership management, or related roles

Core Competencies:

Business & Marketing Acumen: Strong understanding of nonprofit business models, philanthropic sector dynamics, and grant‑making processes. Demonstrated ability to translate organizational value propositions into compelling narratives for diverse audiences.

Networking & Relationship Building: Exceptional interpersonal and listening skills with proven ability to build authentic, long‑term relationships. Comfortable initiating conversations, representing an organization at professional events, and managing complex relationship touchpoints.

HubSpot Proficiency: Demonstrated hands‑on experience with HubSpot CRM, the Sales and Marketing Hubs, including contact management, deal tracking, pipeline management, and reporting. Ability to leverage HubSpot data for strategic insights and decision‑making.

Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Capable of adapting messaging and communication style for different audiences (foundation leaders, nonprofit executives, municipal officials, coaches).

Sales & Relationship Development: Proven track record in sales, business development, or partnership management roles. Demonstrated ability to move prospects through a sales/partnership pipeline and close agreements.

Strategic Thinking: Ability to think strategically about market opportunities, partnership potential, and long‑term growth. Comfortable with ambiguity and capable of developing approaches to complex relationship challenges.

Work Ethic & Adaptability: Willing to work hard and smart. Comfortable with travel to conferences and partner meetings. Adaptable to changing priorities and capable of managing multiple relationship timelines simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in the nonprofit, philanthropic, or community development sectors

Familiarity with community foundation operations or other nonprofit partnership models

Experience with other CRM platforms or marketing automation tools

Prior conference speaking or presentation experience

Knowledge of rural development, civic engagement, or community building work

This role requires travel to major conferences and partner engagement events across the United States. Expected travel: 30% of time, with seasonal peaks during fall and spring conference seasons.

Location: Based in Shelburne, VT, with flexibility for remote work on administrative and planning tasks

Schedule: Full‑time, Monday‑Friday with flexibility for evening/weekend networking events when attending conferences

Technology: Regular use of HubSpot, email, video conferencing, and Microsoft Office tools

Salary Range based on experience: $70,000 to $85,000
