Position Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and client-focused Tax Professional to join our onsite team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience preparing individual and business tax returns, a strong understanding of current tax laws, and the ability to support clients through bookkeeping, payroll, sales tax compliance, and tax planning.
Responsibilities
Prepare and review federal and state individual (1040) tax returns
Prepare business tax returns, including C corporations (1120), S corporations (1120S), and partnerships (1065)
Handle client bookkeeping services, including maintaining general ledgers, reconciling accounts, and preparing financial statements
Process client payroll and ensure timely and accurate payroll tax filings and compliance
Prepare and file sales tax returns and ensure compliance with state and local requirements
Assist with and review bookkeeping records to ensure accurate financial data for tax filings
Identify potential tax credits, deductions, and proactive tax planning opportunities for individuals and small businesses
Communicate directly with clients to gather documentation, answer questions, and resolve accounting or tax-related issues
Support tax planning, projections, and year-round advisory services
Stay current on IRS, state, and local tax laws and regulations
Maintain organized, accurate workpapers and client records in accordance with firm standards
Participate in client relationship development and networking efforts, including referrals and professional or community events, as appropriate
Qualifications
Minimum of 4 years of recent experience in tax preparation and review
Experience with bookkeeping, payroll processing, and sales tax compliance
Strong knowledge of individual and small business tax returns
Working knowledge of bookkeeping principles and financial statements
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and tax/accounting software
Preferred software experience: UltraTax, QuickBooks Desktop, QuickBooks Online, and Thomson Reuters Accounting CS
Solid understanding of federal and state tax codes, compliance, and procedures
CPA or EA preferred, but not required
Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Strong interpersonal, communication, and client-service skills
Comfortable working onsite and collaborating in a small, team-oriented environment
Interest in building long-term client relationships and contributing to firm growth
