Position Summary We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Intervention Specialist to join our Merrionette Park office. The role requires a passion for community‑based social services and a commitment to supporting at‑risk populations in need of safety interventions. The specialist will conduct in‑person, community‑based risk evaluations to assess immediate needs and determine the appropriate level of care for individuals experiencing crisis situations.

Compensation Salary: $50,000–$55,000 annually, based on skill and experience. Sign‑on bonus: $2,500 paid in installments ($500 within first or second paycheck; $1,000 after 6 months; $1,000 after completing one year).

Essential Job Functions

Provides after‑hours coverage for cases that require immediate response.

Completes a minimum of three on‑call shifts per month.

Gathers and processes client information for eligibility determination, assessments, and referrals.

Uses clinical judgement to assess potential harm or risk and recommends a safety plan to the supervisor.

Assesses and evaluates client situations, engages with collateral contacts to necessary information, and, when needed, engages courts, law enforcement, or other entities.

Utilizes clinical modalities to develop effective working relationships with clients, families, and collateral contacts to implement a plan that reduces or eliminates risk; refers clients to services, advocates for their needs, and provides supportive counseling.

Maintains compliance with required reports, assessments, and paperwork.

Reassesses and monitors planned services to determine if client needs are met or have changed.

Uses knowledge of resources to help clients utilize them effectively.

Provides outreach and education through community groups on unmet and special needs.

Participates in and seeks out training and educational opportunities to maintain required training and/or certification.

Organizes time, manages job responsibilities independently to maximize service delivery, and works within program reporting and billing requirements.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to work in a community‑based, high‑risk environment with diverse populations.

Knowledge of crisis intervention and safety planning.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Verbal de‑escalation skills.

Strong interpersonal, written, and communication skills.

Excellent administrative and organizational skills.

Ability to set priorities, organize time efficiently, and handle multiple demands.

Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups of diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field from an accredited college or university.

At least 2 years of relevant experience, including crisis intervention, verbal de‑escalation, clinical work in a mental health setting, and working with clients experiencing mental illness across their lifespan.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Additional Requirements

Pass all relevant screenings and criminal background checks satisfactorily.

Transportation / Travel Requirements Driving for work with a personally owned vehicle required.

Physical Demands The employee must sit, stand, talk, hear, use hands and fingers to feel, handle, and operate objects or controls, and occasionally stand, bend, stretch, stoop, kneel, and crouch. Close visual acuity is required to prepare and analyze data and figures, transcribe and view a computer terminal.
