A Body Shop Estimator inspects damaged vehicles, assesses repair needs (parts, labor, paint), calculates costs, and creates detailed estimates for customers and insurance companies, requiring strong communication, negotiation, and organizational skills to manage the repair process from quote to completion, ensuring customer satisfaction and accuracy.
Core Responsibilities
Vehicle Inspection:
Thoroughly examine vehicles for structural, exterior, and interior damage.
Cost Estimation:
Determine costs for parts, labor, and paint, deciding between repairs and replacements.
Insurance Liaison:
Prepare and submit itemized estimates to insurance agencies, negotiate costs, and process paperwork.
Customer Communication:
Explain repair options, costs, and timelines to customers, building trust and ensuring satisfaction.
Repair Planning:
Coordinate repair timelines with managers, technicians, and insurance.
Parts Management:
Assist with ordering parts and supplies.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate records and manage customer information.
Key Skills & Qualifications
Working knowledge of CCC or Mitchell estimating software.
Excellent communication (written & verbal) and negotiation skills.
Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
Knowledge of automotive repair techniques and materials.
Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Valid driver's license.
