Posting Description
The Director of Development is a key leadership position responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive fundraising strategies to support Santa Fe Habitat for Humanity's mission. This role requires a dynamic fundraising professional who can cultivate relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, foundations, and community stakeholders while managing the overall development operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Fundraising & Revenue Generation
- Develop and execute annual fundraising plan to meet or exceed revenue goals of at least $1,000,000
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward major gifts from individual donors ($5,000+)
- Identify and secure corporate sponsorships and partnerships
- Research and write grant proposals to foundations and government entities
- Oversee annual giving campaigns, including direct mail and digital fundraising
- Plan and execute special fundraising events (galas, home dedications, etc.)
Donor Relations & Stewardship
- Build and maintain a portfolio of major donor prospects and current supporters
- Develop personalized cultivation and stewardship strategies for key donors
- Ensure timely and meaningful donor acknowledgment and recognition
- Create opportunities for donor engagement, including site visits and volunteer events
- Ensure accurate donor records are maintained in fundraising database
Strategic Planning & Leadership
- Collaborate with Executive Director and Board of Directors on fundraising goals and strategies
- Provide regular reports on fundraising progress and metrics to leadership and Board
- Serve as staff liaison to the Development Committee of the Board
- Work with program staff to identify funding needs and opportunities
- Stay current on fundraising best practices and local philanthropic trends
Marketing & Communications
- Oversee development of fundraising materials, including case statements and impact reports
- Collaborate with communications team on donor newsletters and social media content
- Tell compelling stories that demonstrate the impact of homeownership on families
- Represent the organization at community events and networking opportunities
Team Management
- Supervise development staff and/or coordinate with volunteers as needed
- Manage development budget and ensure cost‑effective fundraising practices
- Ensure compliance with all fundraising regulations and ethical standards
Qualifications
Required:- Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, or related field
- Minimum 5-7 years of progressive fundraising experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector
- Proven track record of securing major gifts and meeting fundraising goals
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with donor database management (Salesforce, Raiser's Edge, or similar)
- Strong relationship‑building and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of fundraising principles, donor cultivation cycles, and best practices
- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends
- Experience in affordable housing, community development, or similar mission‑driven work
- Knowledge of Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico philanthropic community
- Grant writing experience with demonstrated successCFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) or willingness to pursue certification
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills valued

Location & Work Environment
- This position is based in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary range: $70,000 - $90,000 (commensurate with experience)
