About Us

Starting Point International Education is a Mandarin immersion Montessori childcare center serving young children in the Los Angeles Westside community. We are committed to language immersion, Montessori philosophy, and the holistic development of each child. Our programs emphasize independence, respect, cultural appreciation, and strong school–family partnerships.

As our school community continues to grow, we are seeking a dedicated and organized Assistant Director to support daily operations, staff development, and program quality in compliance with California Community Care Licensing (CCL) requirements.

Position Overview

The Assistant Director works closely with the Director to support the smooth operation of the childcare center, ensure licensing compliance, and maintain a nurturing, high-quality learning environment. This role combines administrative leadership, classroom support, and family communication, and is ideal for an educator interested in long-term leadership growth within a Montessori and language-immersion setting.

Key Responsibilities

Program & Operations Support

  • Assist the Director with daily school operations and administrative duties
  • Support compliance with California Community Care Licensing (Title 22) regulations
  • Maintain accurate records for children, staff, and licensing documentation
  • Support health, safety, emergency preparedness, and ratio requirements
  • Assist with staff scheduling and classroom coverage

Educational Leadership

  • Support implementation of Montessori philosophy and Mandarin immersion practices
  • Observe classrooms and support teachers with lesson planning and classroom flow
  • Support children’s developmental, social-emotional, and language growth
  • Assist with maintaining a calm, respectful, and developmentally appropriate environment

Family Communication

  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with families regarding enrollment, transitions, and daily matters
  • Assist with parent tours, onboarding, and school events
  • Support communication platforms such as Brightwheel and email

Staff Support & Development

  • Assist with onboarding and training new staff members
  • Support ongoing professional development and mentoring
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and respectful team culture

California Licensing & Regulatory Requirements

The Assistant Director must meet or be willing to meet California Title 22 requirements, including:

  • Minimum age: 21 years old
  • Education:
    • At least 12 semester units in Early Childhood Education / Child Development (ECE/CD), including core courses
    • An additional 3–6 units in administration or willingness to complete them within a required timeframe
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 1–2 years of experience working in a licensed childcare or preschool setting
  • Health & Safety:
    • Current TB clearance
    • Health screening as required by CCL
    • Proof of immunizations per California regulations
  • Clearances:
    • DOJ & FBI fingerprint clearance (Live Scan)
    • Child Abuse Index clearance
  • Training:
    • CPR & First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
    • Mandated Reporter Training (AB 1207)
    • Required annual training hours per CCL

Preferred Qualifications

  • Montessori experience or training (AMS/AMI preferred but not required)
  • Astrong interest in immersion education
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and take initiative
  • Interest in long-term growth and leadership within the school
