Responsibilities

Shawmut is seeking a Director – Critical Pursuits & Planning (Mission Critical) to lead our strategic early‑phase planning and high‑value pursuits within the mission‑critical market. This senior leader will guide multi‑disciplinary teams through upfront strategy, feasibility, scope development, and preconstruction excellence to ensure that complex data center and mission‑critical projects enter execution fully “build ready.”In this role, you will shape strategic opportunities, build deep client and partner relationships, and drive solutions tailored to the unique demands of hyperscale, enterprise, and colocation environments. You will also elevate internal capabilities by mentoring teams and strengthening best practices for mission‑critical delivery.

Strategic Leadership & Pursuit Management

  • Lead the Critical Pursuits & Planning function and guide early‑phase strategy for mission‑critical projects.
  • Oversee project conceptualization, scope definition, schedule strategy, and risk positioning.
  • Ensure smooth handoff from pursuit to execution across all disciplines.

Client Development & Market Growth

  • Build and strengthen relationships with hyperscale, enterprise, and colocation clients.
  • Identify upcoming opportunities and position Shawmut effectively in the mission‑critical market.
  • Support clients in early decision‑making around power, redundancy, cooling, and cost impacts.

Preconstruction & Planning

  • Direct feasibility assessments, conceptual budgets, and MEP strategy development.
  • Evaluate risks, constructability, long‑lead items, and commissioning requirements.
  • Ensure early‑phase planning aligns with client uptime and speed‑to‑market goals.

Procurement & Partner Engagement

  • Lead early procurement strategy for critical trades such as electrical, mechanical, and controls.
  • Maintain a transparent, competitive process aligned with mission‑critical performance needs.

Operational Excellence & Team Development

  • Develop training programs supporting mission‑critical planning and MEP/commissioning fundamentals.
  • Drive continuous improvement of planning tools, workflows, and best practices.
  • Coach and mentor teams to elevate technical and strategic capabilities.

Qualifications

Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in mission‑critical, data center, or highly technical building environments, with emphasis on early‑phase planning, preconstruction, or pursuit strategy.
  • Proven leadership of complex, cross‑functional planning efforts.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field (required).

Skills & Capabilities

  • Deep understanding of MEP systems, redundancy planning, commissioning integration, and mission‑critical delivery requirements.
  • Strong relationship‑building, communication, and executive‑level presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple pursuits in parallel and make sound strategic decisions.
  • Commitment to cultivating inclusion, collaboration, and continuous learning.

Salary Range Information

Boston Base Salary Range: $215,000 - $265,000 The range stated is specific to Boston. Placement within the listed range depends on many factors including, but not limited to years of experience, project size capability (for Construction & Field roles) and internal company equity.
