Position Summary
The Executive Director serves as the chief executive and strategic leader of the organization. This role is responsible for organizational leadership, operational oversight, financial management, team development, external partnerships, and long-term sustainability. The Executive Director will guide the organization through a period of continued evolution, ensuring alignment between mission, operations, technology, and audience needs. This role requires a collaborative, adaptable leader with strong management capabilities and experience leading complex, mission-focused operations.
Key Responsibilities
Executive Leadership & Strategy
- Partner with the Board of Directors to set strategic priorities and long-term goals.
- Develop and execute organizational plans that support sustainability, relevance, and growth.
- Lead organizational change and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Oversee daily operations across programs, platforms, facilities, and systems.
- Ensure efficient workflows, quality standards, and effective service delivery.
- Support the development and execution of programming, content, and educational initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, contracts, and organizational policies.
- Serve as a senior representative of the organization to partners, stakeholders, and the broader community.
- Oversee communication strategies, branding, and public-facing initiatives.
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships aligned with organizational goals.
- Support outreach, engagement, and audience growth efforts.
- Recruit, supervise, and develop staff, contractors, and volunteers.
- Establish clear expectations, performance metrics, and development plans.
- Work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure transparency and alignment.
- Develop and manage operating and capital budgets.
- Ensure accurate financial reporting, accounting, and compliance.
- Maintain strong financial controls and long-term sustainability planning.
- Identify and support diversified revenue streams, including grants, contracts, fundraising, and earned income.
- Oversee vendor and partner agreements.
- Evaluate and invest in systems and technologies that improve efficiency and impact.
- Oversee digital infrastructure, data management, and content delivery systems.
- Monitor trends in technology, automation, AI, and audience engagement.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.
- Senior leadership experience within a mission-driven, nonprofit, public service, or complex organizational environment.
- Strong operational, financial, and people management experience.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage change, and execute strategic initiatives.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and leadership skills.
- Experience overseeing multi-platform programs or services.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and ethical leadership.
Preferred
- Experience working closely with a Board of Directors.
- Familiarity with nonprofit or mission-based financial models.
- Experience leveraging technology or AI to improve organizational efficiency.
- Fundraising, grant development, or revenue diversification experience.
