Content Director for the Central African Region

The African Psychological Association (APA) is a scientific and professional organization that represents psychologists and the mental health industry in every African country. The APA seeks to educate Africans and the diaspora about psychology, behavioural health and mental wellness. We promote psychology as a science and support appropriate practice, fostering the education and training of future psychological researchers, practitioners and educators. We advocate the use of psychological knowledge to inform public policy and champion the application of psychology to promote human rights, overall health, wellness, dignity and esteem.

We are looking for a dynamic, self‑motivated individual with experience and skills in web content management, writing and editing for the web, graphic design and site management. The Content Director for Central Africa will develop the voice for all aspects of the organization’s online presence related to 11 Central African countries/territories: Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Republic of the Congo, Angola, São Tomé and Príncipe, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha (UK), Zambia, Chad and Cameroon. In addition to writing, editing and proofreading site content, this person will work closely with the technical team to maintain site standards for new development. The Content Director will also craft site promotions, email newsletters and online outreach campaigns related to the Central African region, working with technical, business development and marketing team members. Strong communication skills, experience managing online marketing and outreach campaigns, attention to detail and the ability to work under tight deadlines are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee freelance contributors covering the Central Africa region
  • Copyedit and proofread all web content for the organization’s web presence for the Central Africa Region (using content management software)
  • Maintain a consistent look and feel throughout all web properties
  • Work with a cross‑departmental team to maintain and develop the master content calendar for all web properties
  • Ensure that web‑based information is archived for future needs and reference
  • Track and report on all site metrics related to Central African Region‑related content
  • Work cooperatively with key team members and the public

Qualifications

  • A passion for and strong understanding of the mental health industry and the APA(Africa)’s mission.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, and the ability to adopt the style, tone and voice of the organization’s various types of content.
  • An analytical mind and interest in using data to optimise/scale blog marketing strategies and tactics.
  • Excellent organisational skills to work independently and manage projects with many moving parts.
  • 2–3 years of marketing and content creation experience.
