JR100230Salary Range:$40,839.50 - $79,509.82DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS OF WORKThis is specialized clerical and public contact work involving the establishment and maintenance of business tax receipt. Work involves providing technical and clerical support to the general public seeking information regarding the requirements to establish and engage in a business in the City of Hialeah. An employee in this position is responsible for responding to customer inquiries, performing data entry to establish and maintain accounts, and evaluating and verifying the validity of supporting documents submitted by customers. Supervision is received from the Business Tax Official and/or his/her designee who reviews work performed to ensure accuracy and conformance with department policies and procedures and all applicable City and State codes and statutes.ESSENTIAL EXAMPLES OF DUTIESThe following illustrates examples of some of the essential duties and responsibilities of the Business Tax Specialist I. There may be other essential functions, not listed below, in order to accomplish the tasks as presented by the Supervisor.• Receives, reviews, and processes applications for business tax receipts.• Reviews supporting documentation such as certificates of use, state licenses, and all other required documents.• Consults customers and staff from and other departments in person or over the telephone concerning procedures for obtaining a business tax receipt and information regarding city, county and state business tax receipt requirements.• Refers customers to appropriate City, County, State, and Federal agencies for further assistance in meeting requirements for a business tax receipt.• Verifies information provided in applications and supporting documentation through State and local databases.• Files and maintains records.• May perform other clerical duties such as sorting and mailing Business Tax Receipts.• Performs other related work as required.DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS• Some knowledge of the provisions for business tax receipts as stipulated in Chapter 86 of the City of Hialeah Code of Ordinances.• Some knowledge of databases such as: SunBiz and the other various State of Florida databases and City of Hialeah databases.• Some knowledge of general record keeping practices.• Some knowledge of computer based applications, such as Microsoft Office.• Ability to interpret rules, regulations and policies, and to make decisions in accordance with established procedures.• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, government officials and the general public.• Ability to organize, maintain and retrieve detailed information in an efficient manner.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThe following are some of the physical requirements associated with this position.
