Sistrum Chorus, seeks a visionary
Artistic Director
to lead our community-based, feminist chorus. Founded in 1986, Sistrum creates music that inspires, empowers, and entertains. Sistrum is committed to social justice and our members include lesbian, bisexual, heterosexual, queer, and transgender women and gender-expansive people.
The Artistic Director will :
Lead weekly rehearsals and conduct at least two concert programs annually
Develop diverse, creative programming across genres and traditions
Foster a welcoming environment for LGBTQ+ and gender-expansive singers
Collaborate with the Board, accompanists, and guest musicians
Represent Sistrum publicly and support community outreach
Participate in festivals such as Sister Singers Network and GALA
Qualifications:
Degree in music required; master’s in choral conducting preferred
Experience with community-based or identity-affirming ensembles
Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
Commitment to feminist values and inclusive practices
Time Commitment:
~5–10 hours/week (~400 hours/year), including evenings and some weekends
Salary:
Range starting at $11,000 - $16,000, commensurate with experience; annual increases expected subject to Board approval
