Summary CJ America is seeking a highly motivated

Corporate Affairs Senior Associate

to play a critical role in developing and executing the company\'s corporate, government affairs, and communications strategy across the Americas. This dynamic role, based in New York, operates at the intersection of policy and public perception. The Senior Associate will be responsible for actively advocating CJ\'s interests, managing policy risks, and shaping corporate reputation. This role reports directly to the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer and requires close, cross-functional collaboration with our legal, strategic planning, corporate development, marketing, and government relations professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Policy Analysis & Intelligence: Proactively monitor, research, and analyze relevant political, regulatory, and legislative developments and policy initiatives at both federal and state levels. Identify potential risks and opportunities that impact CJ\'s businesses

Strategic Advocacy Support: Collaborate with senior-level Corporate Affairs professionals in developing and executing strategic plans for policy advocacy and corporate reputation management

Stakeholder Engagement: Coordinate, prepare, and participate in high-level interactions and meetings with policymakers, external stakeholders, and key trade associations to build and maintain positive working relationships on behalf of the company

Internal Briefing & Reporting: Prepare clear, concise briefing materials, talking points, and reports for senior leadership on legislative status (bills, regulations) and policy initiatives. Maintain a comprehensive, organized database of relevant actions

Campaign Execution: Assist in the planning and coordination of targeted advocacy campaigns designed to influence policy outcomes and shape public discourse

Issue & Crisis Support: Monitor emerging public affairs issues and provide swift support for coordinated response efforts, including drafting initial statements, coordinating internal stakeholders, and managing immediate media inquiries

Corporate Communications: Strategic Narrative Development: Identify and develop core business narratives, compelling angles, and strategic messaging that articulate core business value, highlight company achievements, and promote key policy positions to diverse audiences

Content Creation: Draft and produce high-impact, channel-specific content (e.g., press releases, op-eds, statements, talking points) for strategic distribution channels

Media Relations: Quickly identify and capitalize on emerging media opportunities to strategically insert the company\'s voice and perspective

Agency Management: Partner closely with the external Public Relations firm to identify, research, and execute earned and paid media placements, including op-eds, to secure publication in high-impact outlets

Leadership Support: Conduct strategic research, develop detailed interview questions, and prepare comprehensive briefing materials for executive media engagements and internal leadership communications

Stakeholder Coordination: Work closely with senior-level Corporate Affairs professionals to facilitate seamless, clear communication and coordination across a diverse set of internal and external key stakeholders, including senior leadership, external agencies, and global affiliates

Perform other Corporate Affairs-related duties as required and assigned

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Communications, Journalism, Business, Economics, Political Science, International Relations, or a related field required

Core Competencies: Demonstrated proficiency in Priority Setting, Drive for Results, Adaptability in Ambiguous Situations, Decision Quality, Business Acumen

Proven ability to handle highly sensitive information with discretion and maintain strict confidentiality

Exceptional attention to detail, clear written and oral communication skills, and the proven ability to deliver high-quality work on tight deadlines with sound analytical judgment and minimal supervision

Highly collaborative, requiring a strong ability to cooperate and work across functions, segments & locations

Willingness and ability to timely respond to intermittent and unexpected public affairs issues that may occur outside the hours of standard working hours

Strong organizational and project management skills are valuable for coordinating multiple initiatives, managing deadlines, and ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and effectively

Must be willing to attend political and industry events representing CJ with poise and professionalism

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in corporate affairs, public relations, government relations, communications, policy analysis/risk assessment, or a related field preferred

Master’s degree in a relevant field, with 2-3 years of related professional experience

Intellectual curiosity and the ability to quickly assimilate complex content regarding the ever-changing political, industrial, and economic landscape

A holistic perspective with the proven ability to translate broad corporate and policy strategies into effective communication tactics and messages

Knowledge of/experience with both internal and external communications and media relations

Travel

Willingness to Travel (Less than 25%)

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.

The anticipated base salary range for candidates who will work in New York is $75K to $95K. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be subject to several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of the candidate’s experience within the job; type and length of experience within the specific industry; educational background; and the location of employment. This salary range may not reflect the pay scale for employees who work in other states.
