Overview

Urban Compassion Project (UCP) is a grassroots, community-powered organization dedicated to addressing illegal dumping, environmental justice, and community care across the Bay Area. In addition to large-scale cleanups, we conduct direct mutual aid and work to create paid livelihood opportunities for unhoused individuals through our Homeless Ambassador Program and on-the-ground employment. We work directly with volunteers, residents, and people experiencing homelessness to restore neglected spaces while advocating for systemic change. Our work is hands-on, people-centered, and impact-driven, and our social media is a critical part of how we tell that story. Role Overview

We are looking for a Social Media Coordinator to help amplify UCP’s mission and dramatically grow our digital presence. This role is ideal for someone who understands how to turn real-world impact into compelling social content, is comfortable being in the field, and knows how to grow and engage audiences across platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.

This person will be expected to be on the ground at least once a week at UCP cleanups/distributions and other initiatives to capture content. Key Responsibilities

Proven experience managing and growing social media accounts for organizations, brands, or causes Strong understanding of how different demographics, including Gen Z and Millennials, engage with social media Experience creating content for Instagram, TikTok, and or YouTube, with demonstrated growth Comfortable being on the ground and capturing content in dynamic and sometimes messy environments Experience working in an impact-oriented, nonprofit, or community-based setting Strong storytelling skills and ability to communicate mission-driven work clearly and authentically Self-directed, organized, and able to work independently with limited weekly hours Nice to Have

Compensation: $25/hour Hours: Approximately 12 hours per week Location: Oakland and Bay Area. Hybrid, with in-person work required.
