Director of Finance (Fund Administration)
Location: Remote, West Coast preferred
Salary: $125K - $150K base
Overview Our client is a venture fund of funds platform investing in top-tier venture capital managers across stages, geographies, and strategies. They partner with institutional and high-net-worth investors to deliver differentiated access and strong long-term returns. They are seeking a Director of Finance to lead the firm’s financial operations, reporting, and fund administration oversight as they continue to scale. This role is critical to ensuring financial excellence across their management company and investment vehicles, serving as a key partner to senior leadership, investors, fund administrators, and auditors.
Responsibilities
Oversee financial operations for multiple fund of funds, direct investment, and SPV vehicles, including capital calls, distributions, cash management, and expense allocations
Review and oversee quarterly NAV calculations, portfolio valuations, and performance reporting provided by third-party fund administrators
Track commitments, unfunded balances, cash flows, and exposure across underlying VC funds
Ensure accurate and timely investor reporting, including capital account statements and fund financials
Prepare and review quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
Manage annual audits, tax filings, and coordination with external auditors and tax advisors
Establish and maintain strong internal controls, financial policies, and procedures
Partner with the compliance team to support regulatory and compliance policies
Oversee management company budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
Manage management fee calculations, expense allocations, and GP compensation support
Support cash flow planning and long-term financial strategy for the firm
Serve as a key point of contact for LP finance and operations teams
Support fundraising efforts by providing financial diligence materials and responding to LP inquiries
Assist with ad hoc analyses for investment committee, senior management, and investors
Evaluate and improve financial systems, reporting tools, and workflows
Partner with fund administrators and internal teams to drive efficiency and scalability
Support data integrity across portfolio monitoring and reporting platforms
Background & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; CPA required
8–12+ years of relevant experience in private equity, venture capital, fund of funds, or fund administration
Deep understanding of fund accounting, partnership structures, and investment operations
Experience managing audits, tax processes, and third-party service providers
Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail
Ability to operate independently in a lean, fast-growing environment
Preferred Experience
Direct experience with venture fund of funds or multi-manager investment vehicles
Familiarity with portfolio monitoring and reporting systems
Experience working with institutional LPs and complex reporting requirements
