Overview
Location: Coimbra / Remote / Hybrid
We’re hiring a Director of Software Engineering to lead Spotlite’s software team. You’ll be responsible for scaling our development efforts, improving execution, and bringing AI tools into our software workflows. This role is key to delivering our predictive infrastructure monitoring platform across powerlines, roads, rail, and renewables.
You’ll manage a team of frontend, backend, and full-stack engineers, drive architectural decisions, and work closely with Product and Geospatial Engineering to ship features that matter.
What You’ll Own Team Leadership & Execution
Manage, grow, and mentor the software engineering team
Own engineering velocity and quality
Ensure reliable delivery of product roadmap milestones
Architecture & Technical Direction
Guide architectural decisions with performance, scalability, and maintainability in mind
Drive best practices in code quality, testing, and CI/CD
Coordinate with the Head of Data and Head of Product
AI-Driven Development
Champion AI tools across development workflows (e.g. GitHub Copilot, automated testing, code generation)
Partner with ML team to bring model outputs into customer-facing products
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Product to translate specs into delivery plans
Collaborate with ML, Geospatial, and Infrastructure teams
Improve internal processes (development, planning, documentation, feedback loops)
Hiring & Team Growth
Lead recruitment and onboarding for software roles
Set clear goals, expectations, and feedback cycles for the team
What We’re Looking For Must-Haves
Proven leadership in software engineering (Team Lead, Engineering Manager, or Director level)
Experience in fullstack web development and cloud infrastructure
Track record of managing engineers and shipping production software
Comfortable with product-driven development and fast iteration
Familiarity or hands-on use of AI tools in engineering workflows
Bonus
Experience with geospatial data, remote sensing, or satellite platforms
Worked in early-stage B2B SaaS startups
Exposure to ML Ops or deploying AI models into production
