GenStar Insurance Services, LLC is a premier provider of excess, surplus, and specialty property and casualty insurance written on General Star Indemnity Company (non-admitted) and General Star National Insurance Company (admitted) paper. GenStar currently offers an excellent opportunity for Senior Casualty Underwriter - GenStar based in our New York City office. This is a hybrid role.
Role Description The Senior Underwriter performs a wide array of underwriting and marketing functions, demonstrating knowledge and competence in both client relationship management and technical underwriting skills. Underwriting functions include analyzing and evaluating complex risks and exposures, and applying a working knowledge of rates, forms, pricing structures, terms and conditions in primary and excess casualty lines. The Underwriter acts in collaboration with a team of professionals within the branch and corporately, leveraging the company’s resources to provide a best-in-class response to our valued clients.
Responsibilities
Underwriting Analysis: Researches and analyzes complex risks and exposures, using critical thinking to structure competitive and sound proposals. Manages a flow of individual risk submissions where speed of response is valued by clients. Applies rates, forms, pricing structures, terms and conditions to support a profitable book of business.
Relationship Building: Focuses on advancing existing client relationships and identifying new prospects throughout the territory. Develops strategies to broaden opportunities through crafting sound client management plans.
Learning/Development: Increases knowledge of industry policies, principles, and exposures by attending Company underwriting/technical seminars and outside industry courses (CPCU, ASLI).
Related Activities: Leads or supports underwriting and marketing activities/projects for the New York City Branch and/or Casualty Division, including developing new products, training new underwriters, and organizing client events.
Role Qualifications and Experience
Minimum of five years commercial liability underwriting experience within the surplus lines marketplace; eight or more years preferred
Undergraduate college degree
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong client relationship management skills
Demonstrated commitment to learning
Well-developed industry knowledge
Enthusiastic team player / self-starter
Salary Range 106,000.00 - 178,000.00 USD
The annual base salary range posted represents a broad range of salaries around the US and is subject to many factors including but not limited to credentials, education, experience, geographic location, job responsibilities, performance, skills and/or training.
