$22-27k, depending on prior experience and in-season housing requirements.

Program Description
The CYC in Marblehead, Massachusetts (Website: is hiring a Junior Sailing Program Director to lead and develop our Junior Sailing Program, supported by a staff of six Sailing Instructors and three Junior Instructors-In-Training. We seek someone who cares as deeply as we do about fostering a life-long love of sailing in each participant and staff—with the confidence, curiosity and abilities to match.
In 2025, more than 130 sailors aged seven to fourteen sailed with us. Classes take place Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm across four two-week-long sessions. Our sailors learn in a fleet of club-owned Optimists, Prams and Sonar keelboats, with staff teaching from 15\' RIBs and 17\' Boston Whalers. While our program supports some competitive sailing at the local level, the majority of our focus is on beginner and intermediate levels.
Position Description and Requirements
You will be an ideal candidate if you have:
- Successfully run a junior sailing program or sailing camp as a director or head instructor with staff management responsibilities for at least one full season and come strongly recommended by that program. Experience leading a yacht club junior sailing program is a plus, but not a requirement
- Possess an active US Sailing Level 1 certification and all related qualifications - including SafeSport and a State of Massachusetts Safe Boating License
- Significant personal and instructional sailing experience for more than eight years across dinghies, keelboats and small motorboats. Experience in open ocean conditions a plus
- The demonstrated ability to manage sailor and staff needs under pressure, including maturely and productively engaging with parents, yacht club members and staff in potentially stressful situations
- Some background in and comfort with maintaining boats and related equipment, as well as the safe handling of the materials and tools
Pre-Season Responsibilities (From Date of Hire to Start of Program)
During the off-season, you will:
- Lead the design of the class structure, schedule, descriptions, capacities, and timing with support—including ongoing updates to the program handbook, informational brochure, webpage and Instagram account—working with CYC Communications staff to ensure member-focused communications material is current, accurate and widely disseminated
- Actively maintain online program registration via ClubSpot, including waitlist management, including working with the CYC Finance Team to ensure accurate billing, refunds and headcount
- Work with the Sailing Director, Dockmaster and Human Resources (HR) Staff to successfully hire and onboard your team of six sailing instructors and three junior instructors-in-training
- Attend monthly virtual Sailing Committee meetings
- Oversee the initial set up of the Junior Sailing Program classroom, fleet and related equipment with program staff, inspecting all of the above for potential safety issues and breakdowns, and leading the required repairs with the assistance of Waterfront Staff before the program begins
In-Season Responsibilities
During the season, you will:
- Ensure safe and smooth daily program operations, including: class and session curriculum implementation, bi-weekly theme days, staff assignments and supervision, daily set-up and breakdown of equipment, monitor weather to make safe decisions for staff and participants, communicate with the participants\' parents as needed, support participants when they are scared, sick, or have behavioral problems during the lesson, develop and conduct safety training and emergency drills
- Ensure all safety protocols and procedures are in place and followed rigorously
- Ensure accurate payroll records are maintained through staff time clock usage
- Conduct ongoing fleet and equipment maintenance as it arises, cleaning and refueling all coach boats Friday after classes conclude
- Work with the Communications team to update Sailing News and other relevant communications pieces
- Coordinate with Sailing Director and Dockmaster the scheduling and full staffing for regattas, CYC Family Sailing, CYC Member Sonar outings, team racing practices, and any other special events
- Plan, coordinate, and host the Junior Sailing Banquet (typically the final program week), including the design and ordering of small season-ending gifts for participants

- A copy of your active US Sailing Level 1 certification OR documentation that you are registered for your US Sailing Level 1 in-person course
