General Summary Qualcomm is seeking an experienced and strategic Director, Global Head of EHS, to provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for our global environmental, health, and safety programs. This role is responsible for formulating and executing EHS policies and strategies that ensure regulatory compliance across all jurisdictions, protect employees, communities, and reputation, and drive a culture of safety excellence and environmental stewardship. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of implementing effective EHS management systems in a complex, global, high-tech environment. This position will be a change agent for Qualcomm as the EHS program matures within the organization to influence line management and employee awareness, engagement, and accountability. The individual will build, lead, and manage Qualcomm’s global EHS professionals and serve as the lead EHS subject matter expert on technical and regulatory aspects, EHS management systems, EHS program standards, and EHS best practices. This role requires close collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure ongoing compliance and risk management effectiveness.

Onsite requirement: Position requires the individual to be onsite in San Diego full time, 5 days a week.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement global EHS and other (e.g., water) policies and strategies aligned with company goals and regulations, promoting a "Safety First" culture.
  • Ensure adherence to global EHS regulations, manage risk assessments, and oversee incident investigations.
  • Lead and develop a global EHS team.
  • Act as the primary EHS liaison with regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders.
  • Present to executive leadership on EHS matters.
  • Implement and maintain robust EHS management systems.
  • Use data and benchmarking to drive improvements in EHS performance.
  • Monitor developments, trends, emerging issues, legislation, and regulations related to EHS and best practice trends in the industry to ensure timely and effective communication to the organization and incorporate changes to EHS programs.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and reporting with all current and evolving international (e.g., CSRD), national and local environmental laws, standards and regulations concerning pollution, waste, water, and health and safety management.

IT Core Competencies

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and SharePoint.
  • Adapts to technology quickly to complete work objectives; confidently uses new techniques and/or technologies as a routine part of work assignments.

Required Competencies

  • In-depth international experience in EHS strategic and tactical leadership.
  • Experience with executive reporting.
  • Exceptional strategic consulting skills balanced with a drive for execution; enterprise-wide mindset with strong judgment in decision making.
  • Experience establishing metrics, analyzing data and developing dashboards and reporting.
  • Broad experience managing efficient operations with metrics-driven alignment to achieve goals; excellent planning and prioritization skills.
  • Strong collaboration and ability to build cross-functional networks.
  • Resilience and adaptability; capable of influencing others to adopt new behaviors and approaches.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental, health, safety or related engineering/scientific field.
  • 15+ years’ experience in EHS with global program leadership in internationally operating company.
  • 10+ years in a leadership role with direct reports.
  • 10+ years’ experience in accredited EHS management systems.
  • Experience prioritizing and managing multiple technical assignments concurrently.
  • Analytical, problem-solver, and project management experience.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining cross-functional working relationships.
  • Broad communication skills and understanding of business value drivers.
  • Ability to travel 25-30%, including international.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in EHS or related field.
  • Internationally recognized accredited safety professional certification or credential.
  • 10+ years of experience working in a large organization.
  • 10+ years of experience interacting with executive leadership (e.g., VP level and above).

Level Of Responsibility

  • Works independently with no supervision.
  • Provides supervision to other supervisors/managers who are direct reports.
  • Decision-making is critical in nature and highly impacts program, product, or project success.
  • Requires verbal and written communication skills to convey highly complex information; may require negotiation and influence with large groups or high-level constituents.
  • Oversees budgets, schedules, and performance standards.
  • Has substantial influence over key organizational decisions.
  • Tasks require extensive planning, problem-solving, and prioritization.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 11+ years of EHS-related work experience OR Associate's degree and 13+ years OR High School Diploma or equivalent and 15+ years.

Completed advanced degrees in a relevant field may be substituted for up to two years of work experience (Master’s = one year, Doctorate = two years).

Pay Range And Other Compensation & Benefits

$164,000.00 - $246,000.00

The pay range reflects the broad minimum to maximum for this job code location. Salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm. We offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and potential RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for our annual bonus).
