Overview

GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the direct supervision of the Resident Camp Director, he/she is responsible for supervision of all waterfront specialty staff and development of specialty curriculum for all activities. Food and lodging is provided during the resident care of campers and/or program delivery. The staff at all times is representative of the philosophy, mission and goals of the YMCA and its Camping Program. Staff must strive to work cooperatively with the Resident Camp Director and other employees to achieve the goals and objectives of the YMCA. Responsibilities

Responsible for lifeguarding and supervising all lifeguards on waterfront. Responsible for supervising camp staff while on waterfront. Responsible for supervising all waterfront specialty staff. Responsible for all campers and staff participating in waterfront activities. Will help train staff for waterfront activities. Will teach campers and staff safety skills and boating skills needed for waterfront activities. Responsible for developing a curriculum for waterfront that follows a progression for age appropriate activities. Will ensure the safety of the staff and campers at all waterfront activities. Responsible for transporting canoes, lifejackets, paddles, paddle boat, sailboat, water jug, cups etc. to waterfront each day. Responsible for overseeing the clean-up of all waterfront activities each day. Responsible for use, care and storage of equipment for waterfront activities. Will report accidents and incidents to Camp Director. Will report equipment needs of repair or replacement to Camp Director. Will assist with tasks as assigned by Camp Director or Program Director. Will assist Camp Director in in-services and may be asked to lead occasional in-services. The Waterfront Director will supervise the Ski and Sailing directors. WF director is responsible for ensuring that their programs have the needed supplies, a high quality of programming and that skills are being developed. Will assist in ad staff duties including, but not limited to: Developing evening programs, overseeing staff and campers, assisting during meal times, assisting during chapel times, keeping the rest of ad staff updated on day-to-day events, evaluating staff, and working with the Program Director to ensure a safe and positive experience for everyone who comes to Camp Grady Spruce. All ad staff must work one weekend. Qualifications

KNOW-HOW

Minimum age of 21 years old. Lifeguard certification and Lifeguarding experience. Supervisory skills. Experience working with children. Minimum of 2 years experience in camping or recreation. Will be alert to potential dangers and hazards; assess and take necessary action. Needs a valid Driver’s License and must be able to obtain a boater’s license in Texas. Will determine, visually and auditorily, if conditions are safe for boating and/or waterfront activities. Will be able to pick-up and carry a child weighing up to 50 pounds in an emergency and initiate first aid procedures. Will be able to problem solve as needed to determine the safety of activities on waterfront. All staff will treat all staff and campers with equal respect. Pay Rate: $45/day
