Overview
The Assistant Director of the Office of Accessibility Resources & Services (OARS) at UNCG reports to the Director of OARS and plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with disability legislation and equitable access to education. The role involves working directly with students with disabilities, faculty, staff, families, and community partners to identify and remove barriers across campus.
Key Responsibilities
Consult with students to assess accommodation needs and provide guidance on reasonable accommodations.
Interact with faculty, staff, families, and community resource agencies to facilitate inclusive practices.
Apply knowledge of federal regulations (Section 504, ADA, ADA Amendments Act of 2008) and translate them for non‑technical audiences.
Assess psychological tests, disability documentation, and individualized education plans.
Serve as primary liaison for housing, accessible technology, accommodated testing, and other OARS‑related functions.
Build and maintain collaborative partnerships and balance multiple competing issues.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduate degree in a related field or equivalent independent educational or instructional experience in student support services.
Relevant undergraduate degree and experience acceptable as a substitution.
Preferred Qualifications
At least 3 years of higher‑education disability services experience.
Working knowledge of ADAAA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Familiarity with accessible technology for disabled students.
Ability to work independently and take appropriate initiative.
