Customer Service Representative (Part-time)
City of St. Louis Park, Saint Louis Park, Minnesota, United States
Overview
Stationed at the City Hall front desk to provide quality customer service by greeting and directing visitors to the city, answering phones, processing transactions for city services, and assisting internal and external customers with service requests. Assist with self-service center maintenance, in-house and copying and scanning, mail sorting and envelope stuffing. Schedule varies. Primary hours will be noon to 4:30 p.m., Mon, Thu, Fri Responsibilities
Assist callers and guests and refer and direct them to appropriate person, departments or agencies in a courteous, tactful and professional manner. Develop a general understanding of city government, city services, city departments, and primary contacts within the city. Emphasize a customer-friendly, helpful approach in serving callers, guests, and staff. Use internal building paging system when necessary for routine and emergency alert purposes. Operate copier and other self-service equipment. Perform customer service and support services duties as assigned including data entry, maintaining meeting room schedules, copier services, and other basic office services. Assist with other projects as assigned. Manage internal postal services by preparing external mail for pickup, arranging pickup of parcels and contract mailing from multiple city buildings, receiving and distributing all city mail to departments on a daily basis, interacting with mail couriers, and envelope stuffing. Accept payments for garbage stickers, organics bags, videos, and other city fees and merchandise. Work with finance to regularly audit cash drawer and credit card machine. Perform other duties as assigned and appropriate, including assisting other departments with special projects as time allows. Fill in for other front desk staff as needed. Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. One year related experience with customer service emphasis. Experience handling cash or credit card payments. Computer experience with Microsoft Office and Teams. Must be able to read and communicate information in English at a level sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position. Demonstrated ability to provide professional, high-quality customer service in person, by phone, and through written communication. Demonstrated cultural competence and comfort with supporting the city’s strategic objectives for racial equity. Two or more years of related experience. Associate’s degree or other related education. Ability to speak or understand other languages, especially Spanish, and Somali, and comfort with using language interpretation services if needed. Experience providing respectful, effective service to individuals from diverse backgrounds. Willingness and ability to adjust work schedule as needed to support department operations. Ability to serve in an on-call capacity and report to work on short notice when scheduled.
