Normal, IL Job Summary Career Services’ mission is to empower and support Redbirds to achieve their professional goals by providing resources, experiences, and industry connections. The Marketing and Communications Graduate Assistant assists with developing and implementing Career Services’ marketing and communication plans to promote the department’s events, services, and resources to multiple audiences. This position provides an opportunity to assist with a variety of marketing and communication initiatives including advertising, promotions, social media, video creation, media relations, and marketing and communication planning. Additionally, the Graduate Assistant will have an opportunity to expand communication and writing skills by applying classroom theory and techniques to practical hands-on experiences.

Responsibilities

Assisting the marketing and communication team with implementing the department’s marketing and communication plans.

Maintaining the department’s social media plan and presence, including researching posting opportunities and emerging trends in social media, assisting with implementation, and gathering analytics for reporting and improvement purposes.

Researching and writing articles about department programs, services and student success stories and posting into the University’s blog system to feed into university websites, newsletters, and for social media sharing.

Investigating opportunities to feature the department’s programs, services and student success stories for coverage in campus media; drafting press releases; pitching stories to the media; coordinating media interviews with staff experts, and tracking media coverage.

Building the department’s photo and video library by scheduling photo/video shoots and taking photos and videos at events.

Collaborating on projects with the graphic design and digital media interns.

Performing other duties and functions for Career Services as assigned.

Salary Salary Rate / Pay Rate: 1510

Required Qualifications

Eligible for appointment as per the requirements in the Graduate Assistant Handbook which can be found at 9. illinoisstate.edu/downloads/GA_Handbook.pdf

Must be a degree seeking graduate student at Illinois State University in the following programs: Communication

Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field required.

Strong proficiency with social media use, writing, and project management is required.

Strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to multi-task.

Submission of non-academic writing sample with application materials.

Willingness to work in a team environment and provide and uphold our quality standards and values.

Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends

Preferred Qualifications

Intermediate level of proficiency using Adobe software.

Familiarity using a variety of social media platforms.

Experience in video production and video

Marketing and photography experience

Work Hours TBD. May be required to work occasional evening hours.

Special Instructions for Applicants This is a 9 1/2-month Graduate Assistantship with a contract period from August 5, 2024 - May 9, 2025. As a GA, you will be expected to adhere to the University Administrative Calendar and all expectations as set forth in the offer letter. An extension of this appointment is available, pending satisfactory performance.
