This position requires the employee to be a professing Christian and to be willing to support the Christian mission of ACU.The ACU Theatre Technical Director will be responsible for, but not limited to, assisting in building sets, operation and configuration of lighting and sound equipment, design construction and rendering, managing students for various projects and/or productions, and assist with the instruction in various courses pertaining to the technical needs of the theatre department. The Technical Director will oversee the shop and all components contained therein, such as, props, equipment, tools, and sound equipment. The Technical Director will report directly to the resident designer and Department Chair.I. Report to Eric Pitney, professor of Theatre and resident designer.1. Oversee/participate in building of sets for productions2. Oversee/participate in installation of lighting for productions3. Oversee scene shop and set/light/props practicums1. Report to the Chair of Theatre on all matters2. Continually develop and enforce safe-use guidelines for all equipment and facilities.3. Oversee the scene shop and set/light/props practicum classes.4. Oversee/participate in the building/painting of sets and props, the installation of lights and sound equipment, and the facilitation of theater spaces for productions.5. Assist in the oversight of student crews throughout tech week and the load-in/ load-out process for all productions, including select nights and weekends.6. Maintain an inventory of the theater's technical supplies.7. Create technical drawings for all productions based on designer sketches that will be used by carpenters to build scenery.8. Assist in recruiting and training of technical crews for all shows.9. Monitor the condition of equipment including tools, lighting, sound, and rigging equipment; arrange for repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; perform (or delegate) routine preventive maintenance on equipment.10. Assist with the preparation and control of production budgets; maintain inventory and order specialized supplies.11. Support student learning by mentoring and teaching students about technical operations in the performing arts.12. Design opportunities in lighting, scenic, and projections are available depending on the candidate's skills and interests.1. Proficient scenery construction and painting skills2. Basic understanding of theatrical lighting and sound equipment.3. Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or VectorWorks, or the willingness to learn this skill.4. Proficient in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn all required business systems.5. Knowledge of ADA and OSHA compliance.6. Excellent communication skills.7. Demonstrated leadership ability.8. Ability to multitask and meet deadlines.9. Ability to work independently and as a collaborator.10. Ability to troubleshoot problems in a prompt and efficient manner.1. Bachelor's Degree in Theatre or equivalent experience2. +2 years of work experience in technical direction preferred3. Must be insurable under the university motor vehicle requirements.1. Ability to lift and move objects and equipment up to 50 lbs.2.
