Island Montessori Charter School Mission: The mission of Island Montessori Charter School is to enable children of diverse backgrounds to learn and grow at their own pace by offering a developmentally appropriate and challenging academic Montessori environment that models grace and courtesy and fosters a peaceful community of lifelong learners.
Description: The primary objective of the Children’s School Director is to uphold and advance the mission and goals of Island Montessori Charter School. The Children’s School Director will report to the IMS Board of Directors and the Head of School. This person will lead the day-to-day operations of the IMS Children’s School and oversee its procedures, maintaining open communication with the school’s learning community. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated the ability to inspire, lead, and motivate a team to work together toward academic success.
Required Qualifications:
3+ years of working in a preschool setting as a teacher, school support personnel, or a school administrator.
Bachelor’s Degree or higher
Montessori certification
Understanding of the planes of development for children
Knowledge and experience with budgets, finance, and tuition
Desired Qualifications:
A love of children and Montessori education
Experience as an Administrator or Preschool Director
Experience teaching in a Primary or Elementary Montessori environment
Familiarity with non-profit organizations and operations
Outstanding human relation skills (verbal and written)
A track record for creating collaborative, positive work environments
A visionary who is committed to upholding the school’s mission.
Responsibilities:
General Administration
Conduct monthly safety and health inspections, drills, and document reports as required
Oversee the maintenance of students' files, applications, records, attendance, etc
Supervise the operation and maintenance of facilities
Establish and maintain an inventory of materials and supplies.
In the absence of support staff, if substitute teachers or assistants are not available, the Director will fill in to maintain child/adult ratios.
Supports the teaching staff in curricular and discipline needs.
Lead the effective and efficient implementation of the educational and instructional programs in compliance with the Montessori philosophy
Financial Management
Prepare, in collaboration with the Finance Director, an Annual Budget for Board approval.
Supervise and maintain the official business records, including but not limited to: tuition checks, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budget, and orders.
Review end-of-month financial statements prior to Board presentation.
Oversee Scholarship Fund with support from the Finance Director
Personnel
Support the Head of School in staff hiring.
Provide new staff with orientation and basic training.
Coordinate scheduling for Children’s School staff
Maintain files
Review the Staff and Family handbooks annually and propose any necessary updates for Board approval.
Board Relations
Attend all board meetings
Understand and share the Board’s vision for IMS, and galvanize the community in support of the school.
Play a vital role in implementing the school's strategic plan.
Attend Executive Committee Meetings and support the creation of the Board meeting agenda.
Present a written Director’s Report to include staffing, facilities, academics, financial, and calendar updates.
Serve as a Liaison between the staff, committees and families to the board in terms of policies and procedures.
Academic Support
Attend all Academic Committee meetings
Help with the child placement for classrooms
Prepare and support Kindergarten Assessment
Proofread progress reports
Provide lessons and classroom support for Leads and Assistants
Prepare and present at yearly Bridging(Kindergarten graduation) Ceremonies
Enrollment, Recruitment, and Family Relations
Maintain up-to-date wait lists for preschool enrollment
Lead and support tours for interested families
Lead and support yearly Meet & Greet/Parent Orientation for families prior to the school year beginning
Create and distribute a monthly newsletter
Ensure good communication with families
Support and present at Prospective Parent Events to support Lottery and Enrollment
Support and lead family events throughout the year to foster positive connections between school and families.
Any other duties as assigned by the Head of School or Board of Directors.
