Position Title Director - Workforce Development Services Employee Group Status Status Full-time (Grant/Contract) Starting Salary/Rate Starting Salary Range - $85k-$91k based on experience Position Summary

The Workforce and Economic Development Division provides education, training, and talent development and employment services in Genesee, Livingston, and Shiawassee Counties through federal, state, local, and privately funded programs, as well as Adult Education, Regional Talent Initiatives, Corporate Services and Lifelong Learning, and Youth programs and includes oversight for daily operations, staff development, compliance with federal and state policies, funds management, and the delivery of outstanding services for students, families, and community members at various locations. Sites include: the Workforce Education Center, and three (3) Community Technology Center sites. A broad knowledge of workforce training, academic courses and programs, financial procedures, student services, and partnership development functions is essential for the success of the position and the departments that it oversees. With the Dean of Workforce and Economic Development’s guidance, provides leadership for staff members in multiple locations, and oversees various grant funds from foundations, local, state, and federal entities. Dimension: The Director of Workforce Development Services is responsible for establishing and developing partnerships in key industries such as Healthcare, Information Technology, Manufacturing, Construction, Business, Hospitality and Tourism, and keeping current with the workforce needs of the region, in order to provide relevant training programs and services. He or she will work closely with the Assistant Vice President of Career and Technical Education & Workforce Development and the Dean of Workforce and Economic Development, to ensure high-quality workforce development programs. The Director will work closely with the Dean of Workforce and Economic Development and all divisional staff to achieve the goals of the division in accordance with the mission, core values, and purposes of the college. The Director will ensure the fulfillment of the goals and terms of several grants and programs. Additionally, the Director is equally responsible for assisting the Dean of Workforce and Economic Development with efforts to increase enrollment in credit and non-credit courses and integrate academic and non-credit educational programs. The Director will work collaboratively with Student Service areas to expose students and grant participants to other educational opportunities, financial aid information and available support services. Supervisory Responsibility

This position provides supervision to Program Administrators, Project Directors, Associate Administrators, and Coordinators, Intake & Records Processors, Facilitators/Trainers, Job Development Specialists, Employment Services Specialists and Assistants, Program Assistant(s), independent contractors, temporary staff, and work study students. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, or related field. Five years of administrative experience, including experience in workforce, economic, and/or community development or student services. Good organizational skills. Demonstrated project planning and time management, priority setting skills, history of on-time delivery of projects, and anticipation of issues. Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary. Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision. Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule, which may involve evening and/or weekend hours. Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel. Requires the ability to work with a diverse population, staff, and community members using tact, courtesy and diplomacy. Demonstrated multiple, concurrent budget, project, or grant management experience – including budget development and maintenance, and net revenue generation. Additional Desirable Qualifications Workforce Development experience in a higher educational institution Workforce Development experience and/or certifications ( CWDP , CDF , GCDF , BSP , CBSP ). Data Management & Reporting software experience such as MS Access, ETO and/or Cognos. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

With or without accommodation, the employee in this position needs to move about and position him/herself to access files and operate office machinery. The employee must be able to work at a desk for long periods of time and operate a computer workstation and telephone. Due to the managerial/customer service aspect of this position, it is necessary to communicate both in person and over the telephone with a variety of people each day. It is also essential to occasionally transport up to twenty (20) pounds. This position works in a normal office environment. The minimum reasoning skills necessary for this position include the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where standardization does not exist. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. The minimum language skills necessary for this position include the ability to read and interpret documents such as technical procedure manuals. Work Schedule

In addition to regular business hours, the person in this position must be able to be flexible around the needs of the division, which includes occasional evening and/or weekend hours, local, state, and national travel that may require overnight stays.
