This is a unique opportunity for an experienced
identity platform leader
to drive enterprise-scale identity governance and messaging services within a fast-growing technology company. The Manager, Identity and Messaging will provide both technical leadership and people management for a team responsible for global identity infrastructure, directory services, and enterprise messaging platforms. This role requires deep hands‑on expertise in modern identity platforms (particularly Okta), combined with proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop technical teams supporting aggressive company growth and M&A activities.
In This Role, You Will: Team Leadership & Management
Lead, mentor, and develop a global team of identity and messaging engineers
Manage team capacity planning, workload distribution, and escalation paths
Foster a culture of continuous improvement, technical excellence, and cross-functional collaboration
Coordinate with other Engineering leaders on cross-team initiatives and resource allocation
Identity Platform Strategy & Architecture
Define the technical roadmap for enterprise identity platforms, balancing immediate needs with long‑term modernization goals
Lead the evaluation, selection, and implementation of identity governance and administration solutions
Architect identity integration strategies for M&A activities, ensuring seamless transitions
Drive Active Directory retirement initiatives, migrating to modern cloud‑native identity platforms
Establish and maintain identity platform standards, security policies, and operational procedures
Okta Platform Ownership
Serve as senior technical authority for Okta platform administration and strategy
Oversee complex federated authentication scenarios, API integrations, and custom applications
Design and implement Okta Advanced Server Access, passwordless authentication, and MFA policies
Lead application onboarding initiatives for SaaS and on‑premises systems
Manage Okta-to-AWS identity federation architecture and role‑based access controls
Maintain deep hands‑on expertise to provide technical guidance and handle escalations
Identity Governance & Automation
Drive comprehensive identity lifecycle automation using PowerShell, Python, and modern DevOps practices
Oversee automated provisioning/deprovisioning workflows across multiple identity providers and applications Messaging & Directory Services
Provide technical direction for Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, and Azure AD/Entra ID platforms
Oversee email security, anti‑spam/phishing protections, and messaging compliance
Manage identity synchronization between HR systems (Workday), Active Directory, and cloud platforms
Coordinate privileged access management, service accounts, and certificate lifecycle automation
Guide LDAP‑to‑SAML migration strategies for legacy applications
Cross-Functional Partnership
Partner with Security teams on identity-related incident response, forensics, and security initiatives
Collaborate with HR on contractor lifecycle management and identity governance processes
Work with Application teams to onboard new services and solve complex integration challenges
Coordinate with vendor partners and consultants on major implementation projects
Communicate technical concepts and project status to executive leadership and business stakeholders
Operational Excellence
Establish SLAs, operational metrics, and monitoring for identity and messaging services
Ensure comprehensive runbooks, documentation, and knowledge transfer for critical processes
Drive incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives
Manage team on-call rotation and escalation procedures for 24/7 service availability
Oversee change management processes to minimize service disruption
Here’s What You Need: Leadership & Management Experience
4+ years of people management experience leading technical teams, preferably in identity or infrastructure domains
Proven track record of hiring, developing, and retaining high‑performing engineers
Experience managing distributed teams across multiple time zones and geographies
Strong ability to delegate effectively while maintaining technical credibility and hands‑on involvement
Demonstrated success navigating organizational change, M&A transitions, and rapid growth
Technical Experience & Education
8+ years of hands‑on experience in enterprise identity and access management
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent technical experience
Industry certifications such as Okta Certified Administrator, Okta Certified Professional, AWS Solutions Architect, or similar identity‑focused credentials highly preferred
Identity Platform Expertise
Expert‑level knowledge of Okta platform administration, API development, and advanced features
Strong automation skills with PowerShell, Python, or similar scripting languages
Deep understanding of identity protocols: SAML, OAuth, OIDC, SCIM, LDAP, Kerberos
Hands‑on experience with Active Directory, Azure AD/Entra ID, and hybrid identity scenarios
Experience with AWS IAM, Identity Center, and cloud identity federation
Knowledge of certificate management, PKI, and cryptographic concepts
Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code
Messaging & Integration Knowledge
Experience with Microsoft 365 administration, Exchange Online, and Azure AD Connect
Proven experience integrating HR information systems (Workday strongly preferred)
Understanding of endpoint management tools (SCCM, Jamf, Intune) and their identity integration points
Knowledge of legal hold processes, compliance automation, and e‑discovery requirements
Experience with modern authentication methods including passwordless and biometric authentication
Familiarity with low‑code/no‑code platforms for business process automation
Professional Skills
Exceptional problem‑solving abilities with demonstrated experience troubleshooting complex, multi‑system issues
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including ability to influence without authority
Proven ability to translate technical concepts for executive audiences and business stakeholders
