has a position available for an
Electrical Designer
to support our growing US Energy Practice. AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices located in multiple locations across the United States.
Our team provides a wide range of electrical engineering services across markets sectors including industrial facilities (mining, water treatment, Oil and Gas, Power Generation), transmission (substations, OH/UG transmission systems, generator interconnections, interconnection strategy), power distribution (OH/UG power systems, substations, EV charging networks, microgrid design, etc.), renewables (Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Wind), and next generation energy (hydrogen, fuel cells, electrolyzers, etc.).
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding and experience in electrical design and technology principles. They will be expected to work successfully within a team environment and be able to communicate effectively with other project team members and customers. They will have a high level of initiative, motivation, and display drive, energy and enthusiasm for getting things done with excellent attention to detail.
The responsibilities of this role also include, but may be limited to, the following:
Ability to take general direction, simple sketches from engineers, client and company standards, design criteria to then develop and progress through all stages of design – feasibility through detail design
Day to day design and preparation of electrical deliverables to achieve efficient facility design considering constructability, safety and cost
Equipment general arrangements, one lines, schematics, plans (grounding, lighting, cable tray, power, instrument), wiring diagrams, installation details etc.
Function as Electrical CAD lead on all small to medium projects
Prepare bills of materials and quantity take offs
Employ a variety of data sources to build project model environment including but not limited to laser scan, vendor files, existing base surfaces from LiDAR, survey points and contours
Detailed understanding of coordinate systems and the ability to transform data from one system to another
Data management (e.g. vendor data, client data) through the project life cycle
Applies strong knowledge of industry standards, guides, specifications, and procedures specific to working in with US electrical and instrument infrastructure and networks at industrial facilities
Ensure that the technical and safety standards are maintained in all aspects of design work
Collaborate effectively with US and international design staff to create quality deliverables
Participate in site field visits and walk downs
Meeting with clients for project kickoff, ongoing design review, and project close out
Performs both routine and non-routine, complex design assignments that require judgment in resolving issues or making recommendations
Maintain open communication with project team (including remote staff) regarding workload planning, task estimating and budgeting
Creating, updating, and implementing group specific standards
Contributes to a complete and integrated set of digital project content which includes but not limited to identification of discipline and vendor interfaces, clashes, etc. by working co-operatively with team members to resolve issues
Assist with preparation of project specification and contract documents
Ability to check and verify work prepared by peer/group
Qualifications Minimum Requirements:
BA/BS + 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
High level design and CAD skills and technical competency in the field of electrical engineering
Physical design experience on complex multi-disciplinary projects
Demonstrated experience in AutoCAD 3D modeling environments
Preferred Qualifications:
Adaptability and fervent curiosity in learning new software and applications
Experience creating drawings (e.g. power plans, wiring schematics) with limited direction from engineering team
Experience utilizing and integrating data sets into 3D model (e.g. laser scans, LiDAR, etc.)
Experience in Plant3D, CadWorx, Revit, ReCap
Experience working in collaborative model environments (e.g. Navisworks)
Experience in the management of Common Data Environments including ProjectWise, BIM 360
Experience with field walk downs
2+ yrs experience as project technical electrical design lead
Strong experience leveraging laser scan or other data sets to inform design development
Knowledge of typical stakeholders and be able to anticipate data requests and expectations
Understanding of vendor documentation and its use as a reference for assigned tasks
Demonstrated experience in participating complex, multi-discipline programs/projects and CAD teams
Comprehensive knowledge of industry (incl safety) standards (e.g. NEC/NFPA 70, OSHA 1910)
