SALARY: 2026 $131,919; NYS Retirement; Health, Dental, Vision Benefits; Paid time off; CSEA Union; “Cost of living” and anniversary yearly increases

Minimum Qualifications
- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The following qualifications MUST be met and clearly detailed in the application form on or before the last filing date. A vague application will not be interpreted in the applicant’s favor. A resume may be submitted but will not replace the completed application.
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a master’s degree in accounting, Business Administration or a related field including at least 24 semester credit hours in Accounting and ONE (1) YEAR of full-time paid experience in GOVERNMENTAL accounting involving the use of computerized general ledger packages; OR
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or a related field including at least 24 semester credit hours in Accounting and TWO (2) YEARS of full-time paid experience in GOVERNMENTAL accounting involving the use of computerized general ledger packages; OR
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or a related field including at least 24 semester credit hours in Accounting and FOUR (4) YEARS of full-time paid experience in GOVERNMENTAL accounting involving the use of computerized general ledger packages.
Special Notes
- Governmental accounting experience is defined as preparing financial statements from accounting records, maintaining varied and complex accounting records, posting entries from supporting records, making adjustment entries, verification of financial transactions, auditing of accounts in a public agency.
- Public agency is defined as an organization, agency, or department that is owned and operated by a government (Federal, State, County, City, Town, etc.).
- Please submit a copy of your transcript with your application showing the 24 required semester credits in Accounting.
- Degree must have been awarded by a college or university by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the US Department of Education/US Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. A list of acceptable companies who provide this service can be found at the NYS website (degrees verification). You must pay the required evaluation fee.
Duties
This work involves responsibility for planning, directing and coordinating the accounting and auditing activities of the City’s Finance Department. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that the record keeping activities are carried out in accordance with New York State laws and regulations and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. The Director of Finance oversees the fiscal operations of the city departments and agencies through the analysis of required fiscal reports. The Director of Finance works under the general supervision of the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Finance with wide leeway for independent judgment. Supervision is exercised over the work of staff in the Finance Department. The incumbent does related work as required.
