Job Summary As members of the Information Engineering team at NetApp, our technical writers are clear and professional communicators. We are strategic thinkers and creative problem-solvers, and we are passionate about understanding user needs, unraveling ambiguous or complex information, and then developing clear and meaningful documentation to help our readers learn about and use our products. At NetApp, you’ll join a diverse team of writers and make a direct impact on our customers by working with product teams to both serve and delight our customers with optimal information.

Job Requirements What you’ll do

Collaborate with other writers and stakeholders (engineers, product managers, and support team members) to develop task-focused content for NetApp products and services.

Experiment with pre-release versions of products to understand functionality and anticipate users’ information needs.

Research, scope, and develop plans to meet content requirements for product features and releases.

Partner with usability and engineering teams to champion user interface simplicity, clarity, and consistency.

Develop and nurture relationships with subject matter experts in cross-functional areas.

Interpret metrics, feedback, and other data to continuously improve customer experience.

Partner with your peers in Information Engineering to improve processes, systems, and tools.

Represent Information Engineering in cross-functional strategic initiatives.

Exercise continuous improvement by auditing content and making plans to address problems.

Ensure that documentation is culturally relevant to a diverse global market with a wide variety of audiences.

Independently research technology concepts, product plans, and technical specifications.

Interact with individual contributors and managers across NetApp.

What Skills You’ll Need

Education & Experience

Minimum of 5 years of technical writing experience or commensurate hands‑on technical experience with storage, networking, security or related fields

Degree in English, Technical Writing, Computer Science, or related field

Preferred experience:

Lightweight markup languages like AsciiDoc or Markdown

GitHub or other source control systems

Familiarity with JIRA or other bug tracking tools

Relevant technical experience (cloud or on‑premises system administration, storage or networking technology, programming experience)

Successful completion of moderately complex technical documentation projects

Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with other writers and cross‑functional peers to meet deadlines.

Ability to provide writing samples and speak to how they impacted the user experience

Compensation The target salary range for this position is 102,000 - 152,900 USD. The salary offered will be determined by the candidate's location, qualifications, experience, and education and may be outside of this range. The range is based on 'On Target Earnings' (OTE) representing the total potential earnings, which is the sum of the base salary and potential commission earned when performance targets are achieved. Final compensation packages are competitive and in line with industry standards, reflecting a variety of factors, and include a comprehensive benefits package. This may cover Health Insurance, Life Insurance, Retirement or Pension Plans, Paid Time Off, various Leave options, employee stock purchase plan, and/or restricted stocks (RSU’s). These offerings are subject to regional variations and governed by local laws, regulations, and company policies. We will provide detailed information about the specific benefits for your region during the recruitment process.
