The Electric Distribution Designer will support electric utility distribution projects by analyzing and designing distribution systems related to grid modernization initiatives, line rebuilds, and customer driven projects. This role utilizes DDS software to evaluate utility poles and distribution infrastructure while collaborating closely with project managers, line coordinators, and design teams to ensure accurate, high quality designs delivered on schedule. Key Responsibilities
Utilize DDS software to analyze and design electric distribution systems and utility pole configurations Support distribution rebuild and grid modernization projects Track project milestones and due dates to ensure timely completion Coordinate with project managers, line coordinators, and engineering teams Ensure designs meet utility standards, safety requirements, and quality expectations Apply cost effective and efficient design solutions Provide technical guidance and support when needed Maintain accurate documentation and design records Participate in storm support activities if requested, including potential damage assessment Qualifications
Associate degree in Electrical, Electronic, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related field with two years of utility industry experience OR High school diploma or equivalent with four years of related electric utility experience Electric utility distribution experience preferred Intermediate computer skills and familiarity with design software Strong organizational, communication, and problem solving skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment Additional Requirements
Sedentary physical demand level Valid driver’s license required Must be able to travel throughout the Michigan service territory for day trips Use of a personal vehicle may be required Overnight travel may be required during storm support situations This position supports the Michigan district and focuses on electric distribution design for utility infrastructure and customer projects.
