
Overview
The Ohio Attorney General’s Office is seeking undergraduate students to participate in a 10‑week Summer Externship program at the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Investigations Unit. The program is unpaid but eligible for school credit. Externs will experience job shadowing, lecture participation, mock evidence testing, a mock court testimony exercise, and observation of forensic scientists in court whenever possible.
Responsibilities
Participate in job shadowing with BCI forensic scientists and investigators.
Attend lecture modules designed to prepare students for careers in forensic laboratories or investigations.
Complete mock evidence testing exercises that mimic the actual laboratory training program.
Engage in mock court testimony exercises and observe BCI forensic scientists in court when available.
Observe BCI’s three main divisions—Identification, Investigations, and Laboratory—across multiple state office locations (London, Richfield, Bowling Green).
Maintain professional conduct and confidentiality during all externship activities.
Qualifications
Enrolled in an undergraduate program with at least one (1) year of study completed.
Provide proof of academic enrollment.
Demonstrate attention to detail, critical thinking, and analyzation skills.
Must be eligible for school credit from a college or university (dependent on institution).
Must be available for the full 10‑week externship period.
