20-24 HOURS/WEEK
The Reddick Public Library District, serving the Ottawa, Illinois area, has an immediate opening for a PART-TIME PUBLICITY & SOCIAL MEDIA ASSISTANT, 20-24 HOURS/WEEK. We are seeking an energetically creative, emotionally intelligent, self-motivated, technologically savvy individual to create and maintain relevant and professional social media content for Reddick Public Library District and assist with publicity. This part-time non-exempt position offers the flexibility to create your own schedule during the Reddick Public Library District’s open hours when not scheduled at the Circulation Desk. Salary starts at $18.00 per hour DOQ. Participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) and Paid Time for All Workers Act (PLAWA). Publicity & Social Media Assistant Duties: Creates attractive, relevant, creative, and professional social media content for the library while adhering to the library’s established Style Guide and working with Director & Staff. Working with the Publicity & Outreach Coordinator, creates physical and digital fliers, posters, brochures, bookmarks, and more to promote the library’s events and services. Assists the Publicity & Outreach Coordinator with various marketing activities. Works the Circulation Desk & completes Circulation Assistant duties (job description below). Creates and maintains on site self-set schedule. Provides consistent, gracious, and friendly service to internal and external customers. Represents the library at community events and in the media as assigned. Fosters positive partnerships with community agencies/organizations. Attends meetings and actively seeks continuing education opportunities. Establishes and maintains effective work relationships. Acts as a team member in performing any duty essential to the achievement of library operations. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Minimum associate’s degree, preferably in graphic design/marketing-related discipline, or equivalent combination of work experience. Knowledge of various social media platforms and creation outlets such as Canva. Ability to learn new technologies, new procedures, and operate office equipment. Strong professional public service and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate well in English, both orally and in writing, required. Ability to communicate in Spanish desirable. High level of skill using various technologies including Microsoft Office products, email, online searching, and Windows operating systems in a desktop computing environment. Must have valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle. Performs essential circulation tasks: checks-in/checks-out materials, collects fees, handles all materials, and places holds. Completes new patron registration, renews patron cards, and updates patron information in library software. Acts as library reception and orients patrons to use of library. Answers telephone, relays messages to appropriate staff, and makes calls as needed. Performs opening and closing procedures when necessary. Answers directional questions and refers reference questions to appropriate staff. Assists patrons with basic information regarding use of library materials, reader’s advisory, equipment, and services. Attends relevant professional development opportunities and meetings as required. Submits monthly report to Director. Creates displays and other departmental activities as assigned. Provides consistent, gracious, and friendly service to all members of the public. Establishes and maintains effective work relationships. Cooperates as a team member in performing any duty essential to the achievement of efficient library operations. Other duties as assigned. Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. Previous public library or customer service experience preferred. Strong professional public service and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate well in English, both orally and in writing, required. Ability to communicate in Spanish desirable. Competency in Microsoft Office products. High level of proficiency using Internet, email, online searching, and Windows operating systems in a desktop computing environment. Availability to work scheduled evenings and weekends.
