Brown Books Publishing Group is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Managing Editor to join our team in Dallas, Texas. This in-office role is ideal for someone who loves collaborating with authors, shaping manuscripts, and supporting every stage of the publishing process—from concept to market-ready book. As Managing Editor, you will coordinate all editorial work, mentor junior team members, supervise editorial interns in reviewing manuscript submissions, support acquisitions across multiple stages, and help maintain the positive, long-term relationships that define Brown Books’ Relationship Publishing® philosophy. Responsibilities

Line editing, copy editing, proofing, and occasional developmental editing Crafting sales copy and editing other marketing-related literature to assist PR and Marketing Communicating productively with authors to provide updates, offer guidance, and ensure alignment throughout the editorial process Collaborating with editorial and production teams to track project status and workflow Identifying, vetting, and contracting freelance editors as needed Overseeing developmental or other specialized edits completed by freelance editors and providing project guidance where necessary Assisting leadership with acquisitions, proposal review, and related administrative support Overseeing the Brown Books internship program, including mentoring interns in writing read reviews for submissions Maintaining strong, professional author relationships Supporting additional publishing initiatives and special projects as assigned Qualifications

Minimum 5 years’ experience in an editorial role within publishing or a closely related field Thorough, demonstrable knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style, 18th edition Strong editing skills and keen editorial judgment Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple deadlines and collaborate across teams Professional, author-focused approach and problem-solving mindset This full-time, in-office position offers accrued paid time off and access to comprehensive health benefits, along with the opportunity to grow professionally in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
