Vets Without Borders Ireland (VWBI) is a non-profit organisation supporting small-scale livestock farmers, their families, and communities across the Global South. By strengthening livestock health, welfare, and husbandry practices, VWBI contributes to sustainable livelihoods, food security, and resilient communities. We are in a transitional period and are ambitious for the future of the organisation.

The Role VWBI is seeking to appoint a Board Member with expertise in Communications and Public Relations. This individual will play an active role in the governance and strategic direction of the organisation, while providing guidance on communications, public positioning, and reputation management.
This is a strategic, non-executive role focused on oversight, advice, and long-term direction rather than day-to-day operations.
Responsibilities
Contribute actively to board governance, strategy, and decision-making
Provide strategic guidance on communications, public relations, and brand positioning
Advise on external messaging to ensure alignment with VWBI’s mission, values, and strategic goals
Support the organisation in strengthening its public profile, stakeholder engagement, and visibility nationally and internationally
Identify communications opportunities and reputational risks, including issues and crisis communications where relevant
Act as an ambassador for VWBI and support advocacy, partnerships, and fundraising efforts as appropriate
Commitment
Attendance at approximately five board meetings per year
Typically one in-person meeting annually, with remaining meetings held online in the evenings
Willingness to contribute time and expertise between meetings, as needed, in support of VWBI’s work
Board positions are voluntary and unpaid

Essential Experience, Skills And Personal Qualities

A strong professional network that can support VWBI’s communications, advocacy, and fundraising objectives
An enquiring mind, sound judgment, and the confidence to challenge constructively
High ethical standards, discretion, and a collaborative approach
Previous Board Experience Is An Advantage, But Not Essential
