Overview
City Employees Associates (CEA) provides labor relations services to public sector labor unions throughout California, serving employees under the Meyers-Milias-Brown Act. Established in 1988, CEA represents over 160 independent public employee organizations across various public agencies and industries, from cities and counties to special districts. Acting as staff to these associations, CEA offers professional support while respecting the direction of the employee associations' Boards of Directors. Role Description This is a full-time hybrid role located in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area, allowing for partial work-from-home flexibility. The Labor Relations Advocate for Public Employee Unions will represent public sector employees and their associations in the collective bargaining process, grievance handling, and disciplinary hearings. This position involves drafting proposals, interpreting labor agreements, advising union boards, conducting workplace trainings, and addressing employee concerns. The advocate will also collaborate with union leadership to strategize on labor relations matters and maintain strong communication with members to ensure their interests are represented effectively.
Qualifications
Experience in collective bargaining, grievance resolution, and labor relations advocacy
Strong knowledge of the Meyers-Milias-Brown Act, labor laws, and public employment practices
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including drafting proposals and reports
Proficiency in negotiation strategies, conflict resolution, and problem-solving
Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with union boards, members, and public agencies
Project management skills, with the ability to balance multiple tasks and priorities effectively
Flexibility to travel locally within the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area as needed
Bachelor’s degree in labor relations, public administration, or a related field preferred
Experience in public sector labor unions or advocacy is highly desirable
