The Department of Physics at the University of Nevada, Reno seeks applications for a postdoctoral researcher to join an experimental plasma physics program focused on high-energy-density and laser–plasma science. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, execution, and analysis of experiments using high-intensity, ultrafast laser systems at major national and international user facilities. A qualified applicant should be a highly motivated experimental physicist capable of contributing to the development and execution of complex laboratory experiments and the quantitative analysis of experimental data. Experience with high-intensity lasers, ultrafast optics, or high-energy-density laboratory plasmas is strongly preferred. Familiarity with plasma diagnostics (e.g., optical, X-ray, or particle-based diagnostics) and operation in large experimental facilities is desirable. Programming experience for data acquisition, analysis, or modeling (e.g., Python, MATLAB, Julia) is a plus.

This position is initially for one year with a possible extension for up to three years based on performance and continued funding.

Required Qualifications

Completion of a doctoral degree in the appropriate discipline is required. The doctoral degree must have been completed within the five years immediately preceding the first date of appointment as a postdoctoral fellow at the University.
