The Mechanical Engineering Design team is hiring for an experienced Engineering Designer – Level 3/4: Design Checker to join our within the Launch Vehicle Division at our Chandler, AZ facility.

This role will work within the Northrop Grumman Design/Drafting group and will be responsible for checking drawing/design packages for proper content and to ensure compliance with applicable industry and military standards. The Design Checker is a recognized expert in GD&T and will be called upon to resolve interpretation issues on drawings.

Essential Functions

Checking designs for fit, function, manufacturability, and economy of fabrication. This includes review of tolerance analysis, hardware selection and fitment on assembly prints.

Verifying 3D models submitted to manufacturing utilizing Siemens NX managed with Teamcenter.

Liaison with various engineering disciplines, Manufacturing, Quality, and some vendors

Modeling fully defined components and assemblies efficiently using Siemens NX managed with Teamcenter, and create/revise parametric drawings in conformance with ASME modeling and drawing standards

Review drawings with appropriate personnel verifying completed work, checking dimensions, materials and quantities to be used

Mechanical modeling using NX managed with Teamcenter

Create/Revise parametric drawings in conformance with ASME 3D modeling and drawing standards

As requested, may supervise and direct the activities of staff

Perform related duties as assigned or required

Train other team members on design and drawing practices

Basic Qualifications for Engineering Designer – Level 3

Bachelor's degree with 5 years of related engineering design experience; OR a Master’s degree with 3 years of related engineering design experience, or a PhD with 1 years of related engineering design experience, or High School diploma or equivalent, and 9 years additional education and/or related experience

Ability to obtain US DoD Secret security clearance

Knowledge of Word, Excel, Windows, NX and Teamcenter

Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerating (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5-2009

Experience with Digital Product Definition Practices per ASME Y14.41

Knowledge of standard manufacturing processes including CNC Mill and Lathe operations

Experience with Siemens NX

Working knowledge of ASME Y14.100 and MIL-STD-100

Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

Comfortable working extended periods of time at a work station

Good communication skills, both written and verbal

Ability to work quickly and accurately while under schedule pressure and exhibit a large degree of patience

Strong time management and organizational skills

Basic Qualifications for Engineering Designer – Level 4

Bachelor's degree with 8 years of related engineering design experience; OR a Master’s degree with 6 years of related engineering design experience, or a PhD with 4 years of related engineering design experience, or High School diploma or equivalent, and 12 years additional education and/or related experience

Ability to obtain US DoD Secret security clearance

Knowledge of Word, Excel, Windows, NX and Teamcenter

Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerating (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5-2009

Experience with Digital Product Definition Practices per ASME Y14.41

Knowledge of standard manufacturing processes including CNC Mill and Lathe operations

Preferred Qualifications

GDTP Professional Certification Familiar with Industry Standard specifications (NAS, MIL, MS, etc.)

Experienced working with DoD programs

Experienced with Parts Lists and use of Find Numbers

Experienced with use of Flag Notes

Proficient with model-based product definition

Demonstrated ability to fulfill drawing and model verification criteria

Proficient in engineering Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software

Familiar with modeling and/or drafting in NX11 or newer

Experienced with use of Teamcenter

GDTP Professional Certification

Familiar with ASME Y14.41 Digital Product Definition Data Practices

Experienced with weld design, especially per AWS D17.1 and D1.1

Ability to manage multiple assignments and customers simultaneously

Active US DoD Secret security clearance at the time of application

Primary Level Salary Range: $89,400.00 - $134,200.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $111,700.00 - $167,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
