This is a Government Operations Consultant II (Communications Coordinator) position located in the Division of Blind Services, State Office. This position often requires complex communications, administrative and consultative work. It provides direct support to the External Affairs Coordinator within the Division Director7s Office and may support the Director and/or Deputy Director as a policy resource in addition to regular duties. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Creates the Division’s monthly newsletter and materials beneficial to Division employees, DBS clients, stakeholders, and partners. Reviews and edits public information documents and publications, and manages content for the Division’s webpage, intranet, social media, and related channels. Develops and coordinates the Division’s Communication Plan and Annual Report. Recognizes and communicates appreciation for employers of blind and visually impaired individuals, and for Division employees and volunteers. Prepares responses to inquiries from news media, the public, and the Legislature for review and approval by the Chief of External Affairs and the Division Director. Develops strategies to improve internal and external communications and provides recommendations to leadership. Acts as the point of contact for media inquiries, coordinating responses with appropriate agency personnel. Serves as a backup to the legislative point person and assists with monitoring and tracking relevant legislation, sometimes outside regular hours. Supports and tracks the Division’s involvement in local community activities and recommends opportunities and resources to support events. Assists with developing partnerships to enhance educational, training, employment, and community support opportunities for clients. Maintains productive relationships with stakeholder groups to improve responsiveness to client needs. Represents the Division at professional and advocacy events as assigned. Identifies outreach and promotional opportunities to increase statewide visibility. Organizes community events to raise awareness and engage stakeholders under Division leadership. Performs other duties and special projects, including updates to Division policies, procedures, and guidelines. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of data compilation, organization, and analysis. Problem-solving abilities and the capacity to apply applicable rules, policies, and procedures. Ability to prioritize workload and develop various reports. Ability to manage people and formulate policies and procedures. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to plan, organize, and direct programs or activities. WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
The ideal incumbent must be productive under tight timeframes, balance multiple priorities, and maintain goal-directed performance, even under stress. The incumbent should interact courteously with others, and attendance is an essential function. OTHER DUTIES
Performs other duties as requested. Some travel is required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to systems analysis, management analysis, program planning, program research, program evaluations, engineering, marketing, communications, journalism, or administrative work; or Four years of professional experience in related fields. Preference will be given to those with a bachelor’s degree. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Three to five years of experience in related fields. Experience supporting high-level positions within an organization (Executive Director, Director, Deputy Director, Program Administrator, etc.).
