Overview
Salisbury Country Club is seeking an experienced Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to step into the role of Golf Course Superintendent. Reporting to James Nick, Director of Golf Courses and Grounds, this position offers an opportunity for an ambitious turf professional to advance while leading maintenance operations of the club's 27-hole championship course and practice facilities. The successful candidate will join a progressive leadership team, oversee a talented staff, and help deliver a superior golf experience reflecting Salisbury’s tradition of excellence. About The Area
The club is located in Midlothian, Virginia, a suburb southwest of Richmond. The area offers accessibility and quality of life with a dining and retail scene along Midlothian Turnpike. Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate proximity to the James River, Pocahontas State Park, and trails. 27-Hole Facility 2025 Maintenance Budget: $1.8 million Total Annual Rounds: Over 50,000 Total Staff: 14 full-time, 4 seasonal full-time, 6 summer seasonal (24 in-season) Team’s Typical Work Schedule:
In season: Mon 6:00 AM–4:00 PM; Tue–Thu 6:00 AM–2:30 PM; Fri 6:00 AM–11:30 AM; weekend rotation Off season: Mon–Thu 7:00 AM–3:00 PM; Fri 7:00 AM–12:00 PM
Turf Types: Bentgrass greens; warm-season tees, fairways, and rough Recent Projects:
Converted 9 holes to Zorro Zoysia fairways Converted 9 holes to 007XL/Piranha Bentgrass greens Installed a new irrigation pump and 9 holes of irrigation to Toro 2-wire
Future Projects: Bill Bergin Master Plan implementation and maintenance shop renovation Irrigation System: Toro Equipment: John Deere (leased on a 5-year rotation) Success Traits Of Individual

Build strong relationships with staff, members, and fellow managers to understand club culture Evaluate course conditions and identify key agronomic and operational priorities Review training and performance records to assess team strengths and growth opportunities Key Responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills, And Aptitude
Oversee daily maintenance and management of the 27-hole golf course and practice areas Supervise, train, and motivate maintenance staff to ensure quality, efficiency, and safety Plan and execute agronomic programs including mowing, irrigation, fertility, and pest management Monitor turf health, soil conditions, and moisture levels to optimize course playability Maintain and schedule irrigation systems and ensure water-use efficiency Assist in developing and managing budgets, controlling costs, and maintaining accurate records Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safety procedures Coordinate with golf operations and club management to communicate maintenance activities Support and participate in club sustainability initiatives Actively lead by example on the course, promoting professionalism and teamwork Preferred Qualifications
4–7 years of relevant turf management experience Associate or Bachelor’s degree in turfgrass management, agronomy, or related field (preferred) Virginia Pesticide Applicator License (or ability to obtain within 90 days) Valid driver’s license; CPR/First Aid certification (training provided if necessary) Strong understanding of agronomic principles for warm- and cool-season turf management Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $75,000 – $90,000 (commensurate with experience) Benefits:
